In-Development ED Score - Alternative Soundtrack and AI Companion tool

Project purpose

The working title of the project is "ED Score", and the main purpose of the tool is to offer an application that reads ED Logs and plays a dynamic soundtrack accordingly. One soundtrack that I'm writing since mid 2016 and in the future a functionnality that will allow players to put music in different folders (battle / ambiant / stations...) and again, play it based on what happens in game.

The second purpose of the application is an AI companion that reacts to what happens in game and shoots some sentences based on what you do. "Hull critical!", "Water world discovered"... whatever you can imagine.

Additional informations

The soundtrack is driven by Elite's log. The music is divided in several ambiances : exploration, stations, combats. Also, the music can change when certain things happen. For instance -like in the prototype preview- the rythm appears when you make an hyperspace jump then fade out when you arrive at the system.

The AI companion is made to give a bit more immersion into the game. I choosed not to create something long and really talkative (like the TTS that speaks for hours when you scan a moon in EDDiscovery). You get voices when you scan celestial bodies (with variations when you discover rare bodies), stars, when you dock, undock, when your shield / hull is down or low, when your fuel reach specific quantities, etc etc... I'm gonna improve the companion while I develop the application. I got new ideas everytime I read the journal manual.

Also, I'm trying to add some cool audio cues when some specific situations happens. For instance : if you fight somewhere (let's say an HRES), and you hull drops below 25%, when you jump, the AI reacts to your "near death experience" :]

If you got any ideas about some random cues that I can add or trigger randomly depending on the commander's journal, feel free to tell me.

On the prototype preview video, the introduction track is the main menu theme from House of the Dying Sun I wrote. It is a placeholder and will be replaced for the first beta version.

Side note

Full disclosure, I'm not creating and working on that because I don't like the initial soundtrack of ED. To be honest, I'm playing since the first beta with the original soundtrack of Elite. I a true fan of what the audio / music team does for this game, and I would love that every single studio puts so much effort in detailing and delivering such a good quality on the audio.

But I love to contribute to something I like. And seeing all the great tools made for ED, I wanted to offer an additionnal tool to immerse players a bit more... well... differently?

2017/11/02 - Update
Added a video focused on voice effects (this one features FSD Countdowns). The first version of the custom soundtrack is working, but i'm improving transitions between tracks to get something smoother. A lot of events have been added for the AI including fuel warning, basic scans, rare scans (water world, earth like, ammonia), dock / undock, land / take off on planets, interdiction detection, fsd countdown, screenshots, misc chatters ( played 2 / 4 hours for instance ).

I am experimenting with EDSM. If you add your EDSM credentials, you can get warnings when you jump into an already explored system. If the system contains rare celestial bodies, the AI warns you with something like "Earth Like body signature detected in this system".

I'm also thinking of creating a profile for the commander and delivering chatter based on his profile ( Bounty hunter, Pirate, Miner... ).

Well, nope, not really. Correct me if I'm wrong, but i've seen Obsidian Ant's video pop on my notifications and watched it... and your plugin is a voice command driven soundtrack. Maybe I've missed something or I should have read a bit more your documentation / website... but EDS final objective is to give a dynamic experience based on what happen in game, no control is given to the player (besides eventually using the custom sountrack and putting tracks he likes in the adequat folders). Also, I think I haven't seen any mention of an AI / TTS feedback also based on the game events.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing you work at all. I like what you've done with Gamemusicpacks, but when I work on games I prefer a more organic approach where the music is evolving as you play. I'm not really a player that enjoys poping foobar and listening to music above the game I'm playing, I prefer to keep the original soundtrack active, or mod the game with custom sountrack.

At the moment, I'm not really into diving into another big project, so I'm doing this on the side on my free time. There's no harm intended to you or your app when I started to work on this project.

Also, I'm will always supporting musicians that love Omnisphere ;]

Hi Max,

You've seen Obsidian's video, but that's only showing the first pack. We've said all along we'll be adding a context driven mode, but won't add this functionality until a very large high quality pool of music is available, as you probably know, that takes a long time to do. We don't feel a below par soundtrack would do a game like Elite: Dangerous justice, so we're taking the time to get context driven system/music right. Beyond context driven music, it seems we're going in very different directions based on other things we have planned :)
Regarding AI/TTS feedback, that's your thing, good luck with it ;)
Omnisphere is good isn't it :)
