ED Supersampling 2x performance on RX 480 / GTX 1070

Hey fellow commanders! I am looking to do GPU upgrade in next months and I want to do some research - I want to know raw performance numbers for Radeon RX 480 / Nvidia GTX 1070 with Full HD (1080p), All Ultra, Supersampling 2x, AA turned off. I consider running ED under SS 2x due of AA causing much of visual glitches, and I can see it also as future proofing if I get monitor with higher resolution in future.

Thanks

Just a tip, if you are getting RX 480, get the "Red Devil" version, it offers like 25% more performance for the same price, insane thing

Yeah, it looks promising, thanks or a tip! :)

But do you have any numbers to compare? :)

1070 is not worth it, u can get 2x Red Devils in crossfire and get better performance than 800 pound 1080, with 3x Red Devils you can rival titan and still be under 800 pounds

Yeah, it seems 1070 underperforms for a price range in what it is. I I guess I will pick one Red Devil and will work from there.

Pecisk> I've a GTX 1070 and playing like you would like to (1080p, SS 2x, no AA) ; with i3770k & 16Go RAM.
I've 60FPS nearly everywhere except on planet surfaces & inside some stations where it drops a little ; but it's still playable.

Thanks for feedback, will look into it. Those numbers I kinda expected :)

Antoher thing to consider.
When playing elite my fans are switching between idle and minium fan speed. Its so quiet.
My card is Ausus gtx 1070 oc strix.

Also the connections to external fans is a brilliant solution.

The 1070 is about 40-50% more performance compared to the rx480 (for almost twice the price of course). They are very different sections of the market.

The rx480 performs about the same as an overclocked gtx970, the 1070 is approx the same as a 980ti/1st gen titanX.

For direct performance numbers I did post some for the 1070 in my mini review way back when they launched https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/265218-GTX-1070-and-Elite-first-impressions

70-90 FPS 1x Supersampling

30-40 FPS 2x Supersampling

But maybe it is because my processor isn't the best. I've planned to upgrade board and CPU next weeks and try again

Thanks

Hi,
I have upgraded recently to the GTX G1 1070 and tryed the 2x Supersampling. I can't tell atm if it is the weather here (32° C) but when using 1.5x or 2x Supersampling she runs hot up to 90° C and get's loud. If i stay at 1x Supersampling she is at normal temperature about 50° to 60° C.

I am waiting on the delivery of zotac 1070 amp extreme which I purchased after selling my 970 G1. I don't think you can compare the 480 to the 1070, the 1070 is a different league. The 480 is comparable to my old 970, the 1070 is 70-80% faster. That's a big jump with the new pascal architecture.

Ok, just spotted you were on about crossfire, personally I think the one good single gpu is a better less troublesome option. If you are thinking of VR I think single gpu is the only option at present. Also pascal has new VR options etc.

Thanks for all input. My goal was asking for SS x2 performance on budget end of current gen cards - thus 1060 and RX 480. I am aware that there are 1070 and 1080, but they are way too expensive what I am ready to pay for GPU.
