ED unplayable in Rift after 1.3.01 patch (I get 37 fps)

Hi!

Strange problem.. Firstly, I have not been able to play at all this week as every time I tried on Monday and Tuesday the servers were down. Yesterday I managed to download the latest patch, but the servers were down until it was too late for me to start playing.

Today I started playing, and had to update my launcher (but not the game). However, now when I launch ED on Rift, I get only something that looks like 37 fps, as everything (including the main menu) is horrible jittery. I tried switching back to desktop mode, turning on and off my Rift, but nothing that I have tried so far has helped.

There were no problems with the original 1.3 update, and I have not heard other reports that 1.3.01 has broken Rift play, so it is probably something with my system, but I haven't changed any settings since it worked fine, just upgraded to the latest 1.3.01 patch.

Any ideas what might cause this? I don't have any time to play tomorrow, so I am hoping this problem might fix itself by Friday. :)

Hardware is Intel i7 4790T and Nvidia GTX 970 with no supersampling and medium settings, which worked fine up to 1.3 patch.

Thanks!

are you sure you were not accidentally in direct mode, as that is the symptoms i get in that.

as of 1.3.1 ED worked in direct, but was not really playable. certainly extended was way better.

For me, 1.3 worked quite well in the Rift, on a GTX 970. 1.3.01 was EVEN BETTER. I was able to crank up DSR to 1.5x, and run shadows on Ultra no problem. Fingers crossed for 1.3.02 bringing in the new Oculus driver up to 0.5.

I gambled and upgraded to the 0.6 SDK and it ran just fine last night on the 1.3.01 patch. Best performance I've had so far, very smooth considering I'm only running a 6870. Tonight, different story. Had to upgrade to 1.3.02 and now I'm getting big time graphical corruption in right eye with bad flickering going on. Reverted back to 0.5 SDK and got it back up and running but with massive judder. Not good. Last night was perfect!!! Tonight kaka, and I can't figure out how to get it playable again. Big time suckage.

Thanks for the tips guys, I'll test your ideas tomorrow! Glad to hear most seem to get very good performance in 1.3 patch. :)

@piebald3, your story seems to be analogous to mine (expect I didn't touch the SDK version), I'll keep you posted if I manage to fix my issues.

Had an issue earlier where my camera was bugging out and translating one direction the opposite of the way it should. I don't even know how exactly, but when I looked right it zoomed out and when I looked left it zoomed in. Was pretty messed up. I've been having a lot of headtracking problems in general, but it's really hard to say whether it's a bug with Elite or the Rift. I have a hunch it's the Rift itself. I just can't wait until a consumer vr headset launches...

Okay, got ED to work again, phew!

- Had to first upgrade ED itself, as yet another patch was released. That version did not seem to work at all with my DK2, there was image but no lens aberration fix nor head tracking. I assumed this was because I was still on 0.4 runtime.
- Next I updated to Oculus 0.5.0.1 runtime (first had to uninstall the 0.4, and had to reboot a couple of times).
- Launching ED had the same problem as I originally had, judder even in the main menu.
- I launched the NVIDIA Control Panel, and strangely it displayed DK2 as display number 1, my primary monitor as display 2, and my additional monitor as display 3. It used to be 1 for my primary, 2 for my additional monitor and 3 for DK2. I configure ED to use my Tertiary monitor to run on the DK2.
- I tested what happens if I configure ED for Primary with Oculus Rift, but that displayed in Rift mode on my primary monitor.
- Next I marked DK2 as the primary monitor, but then thought that this was probably not a good idea, and switched my main monitor back to being my primary monitor.
- I configured ED again for Oculus Rift on the Tertiary monitor, and suddenly there was no more judder!

Finally for the first time this week I was able to start playing ED, only to be greeted with "The servers will be going down in 25 minutes for an update". Argh! Well, at least I got about 20 minutes of play time in this week.

I hope to have better luck next week.. :)

Just for reference, I did the same upgrade sequence without any problems. Be sure to recalibrate all your settings in the oculus configuration tool.
