Newcomer / Intro ED voice pack install

First up apologies, I have looked but can't find the answer...

So I installed voice attack(great program), and decided to get the ED voice pack.
Now, in VA I open edit profile > import commands, then I goto program files and find the hcspack folder. Inside are loads of folders.. Commodities, sensors, targeting etc. when I go in these folders they are empty.
The only folders with stuff in are like what voice to use etc, going into these folders throws up more empty sub folders. There are a few that have VAP files.

Anybody done this that can basically walk me through it please? It's doing my head right in :)

Cheers
Buck

Yep. I've watched the vids, it's just the guy going through the commands. Nothing about installation.
I can't work out why there are empty folders etc.

It's because those folders all contain mp3 files and you are looking for a .vap VoiceAttack profile. (i.e. they're not empty)

Check the "profiles" folder for .vap files.

Remember you don't need to use a pre-existing profile, you can make your own and use the voice attack samples.

What folders are empty for you? I can cross-reference them with my install.

Did you run the installer as admin?
Did you change the install path? (it's says not to otherwise the profiles won't work).
Can you import a profile (VoiceAttack\Sounds\hcspack\profiles\1 Basic Profile) and load one of the VAP files there?

I've seen a couple of VAP files I assumed was the good stuff. It was the empty folders I couldn't work out. So it's just a case of selecting a VAP file and if need be I can then edit and customise binds etc in the normal way on VA?

Thanks in advance :)

The folders aren't empty. Check them in a normal windows explorer window. They just appear empty because when you import your .vap file through VA it has filtered the selections showing only .vap files. Every other file is hidden unless it has the .vap extension.

You can import a profile and edit it as much as you like including removing any or all commands. Probably best to start with editing what you actually say for each command, to make it more personal... for example I set up multiple commands for going at 50% speed. So I can say "half throttle" or "half impulse" or "50% throttle" etc. and it will all be recognised as the same command. I've also set up random responses to the same command so for example one time the ship may reply "aye sir, 50% engaged" and another time it might say "half throttle commander" etc. Makes things a bit more immersive if it feels a bit more conversational.

I'm pleasantly surprised how good voice attack is. Oculus should buy them immediately.

Ok I get it now. I'm not sure how to rep you off my phone but consider yourself +1 man. Thanks a bunch!

No problems. Glad to help.

If you feel like customising the original profile do some youtube searching. That's what I did to learn how to do the random responses etc.

Quick question..
Is it possible to instal just the vice pack to use?
So when you click other when entering a command you can do text to speech. At the moment it only shows the Microsoft woman. :/
I'm very much down for adding my own stuff, the more immersion the better.

You can have VA do anything you want really (within reason). If you wanted you could make your own profiles, record and use your own sounds, its really up to you. If you want some smooth voice (like the hcspack voice actors) from text to speech then that's a little different as they tend to cost a few pennies for a decent text to speech program. You could also experiment with a voice changer and Audacity, there really is stacks of stuff you can do, run wild with it :D
