ED want's to reinstall.

Hi Folks,

I just went to play ED and the launcher want me to install the game but it is already installed and up to date with 2.4.

How can I stop that happening, please?

Have you been doing something with AppData folder in Users folder? That's where Elite is installed. Maybe you deleted something you weren't supposed to.

Or you may not be looking at the right version in the Launcher?

Ah. That's probably it.

Start installing the game (just a couple of seconds so it can create the right folders in Users/username/Appdata/Local.
Then close the launcher.

Go to the user folder of the previous account where the game was installed, copy (or cut) both "Frontier Developments" and "Frontier_Developments" directories and paste them to the new user's Local folder.

When you start the launcher then, it should see the game as installed. (To be sure go to Options in the Launcher and click "Validate game files" so it can check the data and potentially re-download/repair missing data.

Hi Chris,

Looks like it is a corrupt user profile on my pc, so I'll have to just redownload as it is the same on the original profile and the backups.8-((

Thanks for the help.

That is really strange and I would wait with the download till after you investigate the system.
Try some anti-malware, check your HDD/SSD and if you are on Win10 (condolences) try restoring the system to some point a couple days ago.

I'd first ask what OPs connection is. If you can download in 30-60 min thats probably faster than anything else anyway.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the replies.)

I have re-downloadedas the user profile is damaged it is causing a problem with another program as well.

A new profile seems to be the easiest way to go.
