Discussion EDMC Issues

As a preface, I really appreciate EDMC as an application and how it helps the community and by extension myself. This isn't remotely a post to detract from the amazing tool it is, but simply a request for advice.

I had to take a break of a few months and have recently returned. Unfortunately, since the return after the Ascendancy update my EDMC has been acting really strangely. Initially it wouldn't authenticate correctly. A reinstall partially fixed that, but now I need to manually open the settings and close it for it to authenticate, then manually click update to get the correct information to pull through. It then won't auto-update when docking. Before my break it worked perfectly, but now nothing seems to help.

I'm almost tempted to backup my journal/bindings files, wipe the game, tool and the prefix off my system and start again. Has anyone got any ideas before I go the scorched earth route?

I would start here: https://github.com/EDCD/EDMarketConnector/wiki/Troubleshooting
Take a look into the log files, maybe it's something easy, if not:
  • Deinstall EDMC
  • Delete the config (on windows you'll need to be willing to edit the registry)
  • Install EDMC
  • Configure again
Hope all works again.
Thanks @gazelle. I'm on Linux, so I tried wiping the prefix (resetting the entire "OS"), running the game fresh, and reinstalling EDMC. Unfortunately now EDMC seems to think my CMDR doesn't exist, so won't launch an authorisation request to Frontier. I think there must be some wonkiness with ether the latest game update, EDMC update, or WINE version that's causing an issue.

I think I'll try an alternative tool, like EDDLite to see if there's any correlation with symptoms to help narrow it down.

If you're getting the connection problems after today's update, maybe it's the servers that need some time to get back to speed. I had similar problems after last patch and sometimes on weekends. Pure windows setup.

Good point. I know a few people have been having issues. I managed to get on earlier and fly to my next destination no problem before troubleshooting, so may be somewhat over confident in how well the servers are working right now.

Definitely on the latest version of EDMC, downloaded the latest installer today, but a good call nonetheless. That's a very easy one to miss. Wouldn't be the first time I've fallen foul of that 😆

Time for an update. I installed EDDLite last night, and it ran flawlessly, connecting to EDSM & Inara, picking up every update quickly. I'm not sure what it is about my system that EDMC doesn't like anymore, but I'll concede running the game and tool through Lutris on Linux probably isn't an intended configuration, so it's definitely a "me problem". For now I'll continue using EDDLite, rather than sending myself crazy trying to find whatever incompatibility I have with EDMC. Maybe I'll tinker more with EDMC after the next update to try and find a more definitive and useful conclusion.
