EDProfiler Tone Maps: Share yours here! Let's make Elite look wonderful and weird

I made a gif and uploaded here: https://twitter.com/DrKaii/status/1025102949217972225

It has my 3 examples so far. I will share them shortly, I just need to have dinner and get this place holder sorted to share.

Please see the following:Up to date video explaining how EDProfiler works will be uploaded to this playlist tomorrow, but the older videos are still useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dto0IU0lRhI&index=9&list=PLmZswJzvjc8fUspa249vpa18Vl5G1lq3t&t=0s

Forum thread here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...er-Robust-Settings-Profiler-Switcher-Detector!

Any bugs, please email me: kaii@dr.com

Please share yours! A screenshot of the preview, as well as the settings to easily copy and paste would be nice. If this does succeed, I shall indeed be collecting them here and in the tool for others to use.

Ok to get this going, I'll share the ones I've found so far! All are included when you download the tool. See the tweet in the OP for a video of some of these:

My own tone map for realism (explorer friendly), makes space darker but ship/planets etc. don't dim very much. horizone and A D have their own versions too, included in the profile:

Here's one that makes the game look stylish, a bit like a graphic novel:

Here's my psychedelic one. I've been playing with the randomizer and seen some cool alternatives, so have a go:

Colours inverted! A bit psychedelic too:

Here's the code:

I've moved this here as it wasn't getting any traction in the fast moving Dangerous Discussion forum. Shame, everyone can benefit from this, but EDProfiler's home is here, thus so should this be :)

FYI my latest is this:
4EB3pPh.png

It makes space black black black, stars, planets, panels, everything else us pretty much untouched. Even nebulae and the milky way band are quite a bit darker. Best for exploration, as it can make settlements and some stations lose their textures when they are in partial shadow.

This is what I'm using just now, it gives a very dark planet side, but still has a lot of vibrance to the other elements of the game, the only downside is that skybox is back to cloudy night in VR here as some fo the other dark maps address that.

About to release an update to EDProfiler, do you want me to include this and if so what should I call it beyond "Jay's Tone Map"?

I would contribute, but i find it really heart to wrap my head around what all the values do.
That being said, i really like the tonemaps and I've been using your default setting in my Rift for a while now drkaii, and it makes the whole game "Pop" and look nice and contrast-y. :)

BTW, do we know how this is going to interact with the new color grading etc in chapter 4 ?

Hi Dr. Kaii, That would be awesome, "Jay Le Chardon v1" would be an awesome thing to see in the next release. Can you tweak the width of the pulldown menu dialogue box so it doesn't overlay and obscure the preview screenshot like happened in this picture?

Nor do I really - I just pushed buttons and nudged things to see what happened if a change was worse looking than the previous version I'd flip the adjustment. So for talking sake original unmolested value was 1.0000, to see "what happens" I'd set it to 1.2500, if it looked like an improvement great, if it made it look worse I'd then go to 0.7500 on that same parameter. After nudging most of the paramaters with big changes to their values I got a sort of feel for what the adjustments achieved.

I was wondering the same thing, which is one of the main reasons why I wanted to get a feel for these adjustments now, so I'm closer to knowing what I'm doing when it comes time to play with chapter fours new lighting and the associated parameters.

On the screen shot there isn't an anti smear setting.

I remember Dr Kaii had the sticky with the setting for the Dk2 before. Will the setting transpose across?

Will see next week! I doubt they will remove the functionality, but what looks good might change drastically so will need some new profiles. Or we may all just think FD finally got it perfect and the tool will become useless ;)

I wouldn't know how to create an anti-smear setting lol, and even if I knew the math, which I am sure I could probably learn, especially with help, it's different for every HMD so it's kinda pointless.

Updated, your setting has been added and I've made the box less wide!

Spot on. :)

Testing so far in the beta its definately better (atleast if i drop the gamma a bit)
But i suspect i might still need some dr.kaii love to get the value just right for my rift. :)

...erhm that sounded a lot more dirty then I intended... I'll leave it in.

... oh my...

Will the update overwrite the current tonemap I have set? If not, how do I undo or remove what EDProfiler is doing so I'm getting the "vanilla" 4.0 graphics?

Ok, with the beta, the Python cockpit is no longer pitch black in the dark, the blue panel lights and the stars create a bit of shine that lights it up. So the only way around that is to turn the gamma down to the lowest or 2nd/3rd lowest positions. That means I'll be needing a new Tone Map! My goal this time is to turn the night sky tones a bit darker (a bit darker than before even, as the sky is overall a bit brighter it seems - more testing to confirm if for all star types needed), but to actually increase the brightness of the light tones.

So stay tuned and feel free to help. Good news is this tone mapping is still working so I am very happy about that.

Update shouldn't overwrite anything. If you want to revert to default, chose the Vanilla one, or, identical is the Elite Default Filmic Tone Map one.

Really loving this tool, but for some reason for me at least the tone mapping option is disabled, I can't enable it at all

yes dr.kali disabled it because tonemapping no longer works with new ed. Im hoping he will soon find a way to make it work again
