Do EDSM etc have every star listed or do they only get stars added as we explore them?

Only stars that are explored by people signed up to EDSM.
I've come across systems that EDSM says I'm the first to discover but it's already got a name on it.

Thanks, I figured that might be the case. I had some serious issues on the far side of the core where none of the route plotters knew the system I was in and the in game plotter kept failing.
There are systems that are permit locked between SagA* and Beagle Point so long distance plotting doesn't work reliably, plus stars might start to thin out between the spiral arms.
Yeah I broke it down into smaller plots and made it through without to much fuss.
