EDSM Expedition patches

So, dumb question.... I've noticed that all of the expeditions listed on EDSM have NASA style patches associated with them. Are these issued to commanders who complete the expeditions? And if so, can these actually be assigned or used in game in any way? For example... can they be applied to your commander's uniform?

I'm guessing they're not used in game in any way, but wanted to know as they look pretty cool, and the idea of using something like that to distinguish you from the other guy seems pretty neat.

Again, sorry for the dumb question. I've jumped in neck deep after taking a 4+ year hiatus from the game, so I've got some catching up to do. ;)

Only few, selected patches are available as ship decals. I know of Distant Worlds 1 & 2 and Fuel Rats logos. DW decals required participation in those expeditions (completion had to confirmed by FDev to be eligible for the decal) and for Fuel Rats decal you need to complete a number of fuel rescues.

Other than that, they're entirely out-of-game logos. Some of the larger expeditions and player groups also have their own, real world embroidered patches available to be bought.

I'm afraid not. They're just artwork used out here in the web, with no way to use them in-game. That would be an awesome feature though. Even if you could only see it on yourself (no multi-player availability), so that your own screenshots would look cool with it. :)

EDIT: Ninja'd. :) But yeah, there are a few such as the DW decals, fuel rats and Canonn Research, etc, that exist for specific reasons, but not the general community expedition patches.

Ah, that's really too bad. Like a lot of other suggestions I've seen on the board, it really seems like a lost opportunity on their end to add some pretty low hanging fruit.

Many of the patches were done by the awesome @Qohen Leth, as were the EDSM patches, and many of the logos etc. that are floating around. As mentioned above, only very few have made it into the game.
