I'm hopefully going to order one in a few days when my next payment is in.

I was just wondering how one would set it up?

As the title suggests, I am buying the pre-built Pro model. IMO it's still fantastic value despite the much cheaper DIY version, especially against the more expensive tracking solutions out there.

Also, EDtracker is all motion control right? So using it in my pitch black room at night won't make a difference?

You can see why I'm going for the Pro if I have this many questions LOL. :p

AFAIK EDTracker uses gyroscopic sensors from mobile phones to track the relative movement, opposed to most head trackers that use IR diodes and reciever in front of you for absolute position tracking.

So one is gyro, the other is IR. Neither of them requires room lighting to operate. ;)

Oh I thought they did, shows how much I know.

Still, EDtracker is the way to go because it's so damn cheap compared to the other options.

Dude some one offered you a free Track iR.

Someone offered me a free EDtracker. I certainly don't remember anythimg about TrackIR.

And I've already had a discussion with the guy who offered the EDtracker. He was offering a wired model but I would really like a wireless as I simply have too many cables already, with three systems and all their respective peripherals cluttering my desk.

My trackir5 is getting a bit tired and the pro clip has broken twice (very flimsy).

Anyone have the dimensions and weight of the wireless edtracker pro?

As for setting it up, while I don't have the Pro version, I'm guessing it'll be similar.

There's software you use which calibrates the EDTracker (as well as tweaks sensitivity etc).

Once calibrated, in Elite it's just another joystick axis which you can bind. In this case to Headlook. Works pretty well, although have to reset it occasionally. And if you move your PC you'll have to recalibrate it as it uses a combination of gyroscopes, compass, and magnetometers to perform the head tracking.

I was just looking at the website for the Pro, and there was a screen-grab of the EDtracker GUI. Am I able to bind the reset camera button to either a F# key or something such as LAlt+(any letter/number key)?

I don't think I've tried that yet - I just use the hardware button on my EDTracker to reset it when necessary.

Yes, or at least you could. On my older model the default was F4.

The button works too.

You can use the camera reset but if you start to experience drift you need to recalibrate it, all very simple stuff. I loved my EDTracker found it very hard to play without it. Then I was lucky enough to get a Vive, now it's the same with that :)

IIRC Track iR has issues in bright rooms. Is this true? I prefer to play under dark conditions but sometimes I also want to play at daylight.

No not bright rooms per se.
If you have the brightest room it won't even flinch, but it's infra red and that means that what it does have problems with is direct sunlight. Artificial lighting, fine. Bright room during the day, also fine. But when you let the sun shine directly on you or the receiver on the monitor, then it's going to have problems.

Ah ok, in this case I would have massive problems to see anything anyway. Thanks! :)

(A bit late, but..) in my experience, the TrackIR is unusable when it's sunny outside, the sunlight doesn't need to be shining directly into the room (I even have the curtains closed, though they're thin curtains and certainly not black-out). As soon as the sun comes out from behind the clouds, the game viewpoint goes ape... nothing I can do about it other than install blackout curtains! :)

Hello Comanders.

I have both a wireless trackhat clip and a recently received EDTracker pro wireless. The trackhat clip works brilliantly when my room is dark, but due to the four glass sliding doors that face south, keeping the Sun out is a problem. So, I ordered the EDTracker.

I initially setup and calibrated the EDTracker without any problems at all, but after the first day’s use, it simply refuses to work properly at all. Yesterday I uninstalled it, reinstalled it, recalibrated it, reboooted the defaults, everything. It calibrates just fine, but once set up, it does does nothing but the slightest flicker of movement and points all over the place at random.

I have tried fitting the usb dongle in both usb 2 and usb 3, with no difference. I don’t think the unit is faulty, I am sure I am doing something wrong.

Any ideas what to try next?

Thanks in advance.

Effie. xx
