EDtracker?

Has anyone made/bought EDtracker and if so is it any good, I only have a single monitor setup but have been contemplating the EDtracker as you can get them ready made for £30 but not sure how well they will work with a single monitor.

I'm playing on a single monitor as well. Like with any good head tracker, you can adjust the translation between real and virtual head movement, so e.g. only a 10° shift of your head to the left may result in the field of view on your screen shifting by 45°. It might take a bit of time to get used to, but in my case it wasn't even 15 minutes.

If you choose to get an EDTracker, I'd recommend getting one with an MPU 9150. Although the firmware for it is still in development, I find it to already be far superior to it's little brother in regard to drift. And you can always run the MPU6050 based firmware on it if you want to.

I've bought one and been using it happily, I had some issue to begin with but that was down to be setup. Once I got some help from here all is now sorted and I have it on all the time, well recommended.

awesome thanks for the info guys rep for you both, I had almost decided to get one but I just wanted confirmation first so thank you for confirming what I had already hoped was the case xD

edit - the team that make them are not starting again until the 5th of January so I will have to wait a bit longer, never mind though as everyone deserves a xmas break.

We're picking up orders ;) we had a MASSIVE influx over the holiday period. I've spent yesterday and today soldering like a demon and we intend to catch up ASAP ;)

It'll be full steam ahead on Monday...

Awesome thanks for letting me know I will place my order on monday then xD
have been watching your vids on youtube thanks for making a affordable alternative to the massively pricey alternatives xD

Mine arrived today. Just have to work out how best to set up to use it. I'm flying with an Xbox 360 controller, eD tracker and voice attack.

Really thinking about getting one. Tried FaceTrackNoIR which kinda works but sometimes a bit wonky especially as it usually is a bit dark in my gaming-corner.

I built one myself and it's working flawlessly. Only mounting it to my headphones has been a pain ever since. Your size / number of monitors won't influence its functionality at all.

yup.
Ordered the bits just before xmas and bread boarded it up.
cables box and pcb arrived on the 3rd Jan and I completed over weekend. Got it working fairly well now and it does add something to ED.
I play on a single 21.5" LCD and you suddenly realise that its "a bit limited" oh yeh and you will also realise that your screen is in the wrong place :) It will be too low/high or a bit off centre and you will become acutely aware of that fairly quick. A new 27" lcd is only about £150 notes and you get a second chance to mounted it in the right place........

I am chuffed as can be with my edtracker and had so much fun building it I am going to do some more arduino projects.

Mine has been shipped! I can't wait. I have a DK2 but I find my mind wandering on the longer trips so being stuck in the headset isn't that fun, but I missed the head movement. I don't have the finesse to use one of the hats on my joystick so this was a good priced solution it seems from watching videos.

Really curious to see how it all works. I face my HDTV that is mounted on a wall while sitting in my HOTAS setup.

My question for those that have it, I don't need it to be 'on' 100% of the time, I'd like to toggle it, which I think re-centers each time you toggle with it assigned to a button, would that cause issues with this?

So, for example

-flying in space - Headlook: Toggled Off
-look left with my head - doesn't move screen
-Headlook: Toggle On - If I'm looking left and toggle it, will it 'pick up' where I'm looking left and move the screen accordingly, or will it 'center' at where I'm looking?

I'm assuming I'll be able to test all this but if somebody out there has some experience with the 'toggle', that would be great.

Have been using a pre-made version since beta, and wouldn't play without it. First used it with my monitor, and now I'm using it on the couch with a 86" projection screen. Added immersion is amazing, and it really helps in situational awareness in docking and dogfighting, and sightseeing.

It works dandy, once you calibrated it. That can sometimes be challenging. I use the older version but have ordered the newer 9150.

Best little gadget I ever bought. I'm using the old original version which needs a drift reset every half hour or so. I'll upgrade it soon to the 9150.

It's compatible with opentrack so it works with pretty much everything. I use it in DCS, FSX and il2 as well as Elite.

I was previously using freetrack with a webcam and diy IR LED setup, edtracker has no CPU overhead so I've gained fps in all my sims as well.

Big thanks to Brumster and the edtracker guys for making this genius little device available to all.

Edit - if you get one, follow the calibration instructions to the letter!

Yes you can do pretty much exactly that. I don't use mine very much so far, because I use Oculus Rift for combat and stuff, and when I'm just doing long jump sequences I go to monitor with headlock disabled so I can sit back and look at other things. But I can still toggle it on if I want to.

Congratulations.
Toggle on/off and re-centre are separate controls. You can turn it off without losing centre. The only slight problem I found was that I had to set everything (EDtracker UI, opentrack, ED) as 'run as administrator' in compatibility, or Windows 8.1 wouldn't transmit key presses.

Right - just ordered a PCB and the parts I didn't have already and am looking forward to putting it together and trying it out...
