Engineers Effeciant RailGun Mod Please!

In outfitting my cutter it is unbelievable how much Power these things consume. I swear a size 4 Beam laser consumes less power than the two. I havn't got IHammers just yet but if they are even slightly more power hungry they will push my Power Plant over the limit. this is why I propose efficient weapon mods for the railgun. PA's, Laser and kinetic weapons have them already. Yes there is a minor damage boost But it is the power issue I want to fix more than anything.

Anyone else agree?

Take care!

Thing is... they are alredy realy good. The only draw backs they have are heat and power.. as long as you got a good aim lol. It would be nice i do agree but perhaps too nice ;)

Agreed. I always assumed that the only reason railguns didn't have an efficiency mod was because it would make them OP.
That being said, G5 lightweight + a 50% secondary roll on thermal is basically an efficient mod, you just need to spend a stupid amount of time to grind the mats.

Personally, I'd like railguns to get another pass also. They currently seem to be exclusively a niche weapon that you simply chuck in to fill out a build. I've tried to get all railgun builds to work and their negs simply outweigh their positives.

Yeah I noticed that just recently. I am much happier with the lightweight specs (perhaps even the best mod for the railgun)

Special effect wise there is really one option which is super penetrator, Cascade sounds alright PvP or large ships, but it has a catch of something to do with reduced damage from other weapons, so I a not sure.

A niche weapon

twin RG's on a Cutter is working so far, DPS wise they outperform a 4A PA Almost 3 times over (30 something DPS vs 100DPS combined) so they are useful (if it weren't for power and heat issues....)

I just used long range wepon grade 1 on my rails until they add the side effect -35% thermal. That seems quit enough for me.

I chose to run 2 feedback cascade rails on the small points of my Corvette, simply because smalls of anything else are largely irrelevant. Then I got interdicted by an elite conda while loaded with bursts (RES loadout for when I want to fly the SLF, NPC can't fly more normal build at all), and I was amazed at how long it took me to get through his shields without the rails. Literally 5-7 times longer. The mod does lower damage by 20%, but against SCBs of the big 3, it's jaw-dropping how overpowered feedback cascade is.

Also keep in mind that the DPS reported on rails is highly exaggerated. Coriolis/Shipyard don't factor in the charge time, or the time it takes to aim up a good shot. Maybe I'm bad with them, but I'm lucky if I can reliably land a round every 3 seconds, and that's against bigger craft, against a Vulture? Yeah, no.
PA on the other hand, punch the powerplant out a few 95% hull anacondas with single salvos and you'll come to appreciate them. 1 shot every 5 seconds is a lot easier to get their true DPS out of.

Yeah don't worry, you aint the only one who misses... Been trying to pick off Sidewinders for current CG (in lock down, need to kill things to unlock-down) and have missed a lot.

thanks for the input on the Special effect, the information about most Special effects Is lacking. I don't think it stacks does it? so maybe i'll go for one of each (one for shield Cells, one for ripping out internals) I just didn't want to waste a special effect on a railgun if it is useless, so again thankyou!

I still have my 4A PA somewhere.... maybe I should take it out again sometime and blast out the cobwebs :) it was fun to use I admit.

The effect of cascade does kind of "stack". FDev changed how it works, it now takes 4-5 shots from a small, or 2-3 shots from a medium, to cause the same 95% reduction to SCBs that they used to do in a single shot. So more rails = more shots = faster SCB reduction.

Nice little table for checking the negative effects of experimentals - Here.
