Hello all. I am a standard beta backer and was very excited to get access to the combat module ahead of the beta.
I have to say I am rather disappointed in some of the choices made about the flight model, particularly the practically null yaw rate and the fact that you can only maneuver effectively within a narrow band of throttle settings (both of which seem bizarre and silly to me, as well as "feeling" very awkward; the latter is extremely problematic for disabling flight assist, but I guess I should save that for another thread).
Despite this, I'm quite enjoying the game so far!
Anyway, I had a question of some of the Alpha backers who have played older versions of the combat module.
I am playing the "Incursion" mission and having a rather hard time beating it. According to what I've read, this should not be surprising. However, I've also watched some videos for tips, and I'm gathering that there seem to have been some major changes since the alpha. Concretely, I can see that the weapon HUD display has gotten some slight improvements. I also get the impression that the AI has improved greatly.
I can fairly consistently get to the (I think it was) 8th wave, which has 3 small Federal fighters. I can get one but the other two will shred me to the point where I can never finish all three. Watching videos for tips, in the older version people never seem to get hit. They don't seem to be doing anything terribly clever as an evasion tactic (mostly just some strafing) but it seems that the enemies rarely shoot at them!
I'm wondering, what things have changed since the older version? If the changes are negligible, how in the world are people being so successful in evading attacks? It is definitely not apparent from any video. Thanks!
