Effects of shield boosters on recharge?

Lord Interweb, the Bestower of Knowledge, tells me different things. I'm moving from the horribly marginal Xbox to PC, losing my existence and ships in Colonia, and starting fresh. My focus on future builds relies on a single question. Do boosters affect my recharge or not? I'll be running a bi-weave combat ship + a long range explorer/trader, or attempting to make a jack of all trades. May sound strange, but the shield booster question makes a difference

They do slow down the initial startup of shields.

But once your shields are up they should still recharge at the usual rate of 1MJ per second (I think 2MJ/s for bi-weave). If you loose your shields in combat you can turn off the boosters in the modules panel to allow collapsed shields to come back up a little quicker.

The exact numbers I can't tell you but Boosters do indeed lower the speed of recharge.

easy fix for broken recharge, switch off in module manager and switch on again once shields recharged.

I don't believe that's quite right. Boosters increase your total shield strength but your recharge stays at the same rate, so it appears to go much slower but it's just the same drip filling a bigger bucket.

It's interesting you both mentioned the same method. I've tried it, and my results are odd.

With shields down, I switch off my boosters. Shields come online really quick. But when I put boosters back online, I lose rings off my brand new 50% shields. The mechanism confuses me

Your Shield generator is a bucket, being filled from a tap. Boosters just make the bucket bigger. When you switch on your boosters you have the same amount of water in the bucket, but it's now a lower percentage of the total bucket (because the bucket grew).

That makes the most sense from what I've seen. Sure would be nice to get a confirmation from FDev

Boosters increase the capacity of your shield, but the recharge rate stays the same. So it takes longer to restore the shield strength. If you want to accelerate things, use a biweave (fast charging) shield with your boosters.

Seems to be a general consensus here via the "bucket and faucet" analogy. Seems the wording can be a little awkward online when it's not explained like that. Thanks CMDRs <0
