Efficient travel around a system

Okay... so I'm still trying to work out the most efficient way to travel around a system to scan all the bodies? The radar seems pretty useless (does linear vs. log actually do anything?) for trying to plan a route, so unless I can see a obvious route I normally end up just finding the next closest body to scan. Any tips or tricks to share?

The system map is accurate when you arrive at the sun: Nearest planet should be the first, 2nd nearest the 2nd and so on.
I use this when I want to detail scan only one single planet. It doesn´t work with multiple objects.

To "plot a route" through a system it´s best to fly vertically "up or down" from the ecliptic level . From "up" there you can look down on the "disk of planetary objects" and connecting the dots you can try to plan a route.

I pretty much make sure that I know where the most important object is, then I fly there and scan that and anything nearby. If it's a real mess after that I just fly upwards for a while until I can make out the distances and likely interesting objects based on holoimage and position from main star.

If I understand correctly in 1.3 you can target planets via the System map which will be a major QoL feature.

Egg-Shells are usually furthest from the sun/primary star so identify the last money-maker in the list on the systems map and count the distance from the star. Then lock it up, travel and scan. Once done, work your way back to the sun, scanning as you go. That way you won't miss anything important.

The next closest body is inefficient because it usually leads to flying backwards and forwards past the sun several times travelling a greater distance and at slower speeds because of the sun's mass.

I find it's better to look for one of the furthest objects with the most other objects along your approximate path and then plot a route back from there.

That will be a massive improvement indeed. Trying to translate the system map into real space is on some occasions a real pain.
