I'm at Merchant rank and still Mostly Harmless. And here's the thing, I don't avoid fights as a rule. Once in a while, it's late, I'm tired, can't be bothered, etc but mostly I fight. I submit to interdiction.

Ok so just for an example I have just done a Robigo run and made 4.5 million credits for no work!!
It's just too easy am I going to do another run.....no because it's boring
But if i was a noob then I would be doing them till the cows came home!!

You don't have to agree with Robigo, just ignore it. Having only put in 3 months I could be considered a noob but I'm not tempted. Why? I play how I want. I put up with the grind. My cobra's A-rated now and I worked every cred. Hell, I only did my first rares last night! The impatient noobs who want the big shinies? Let 'em. Besides could be worse, at least they're playing in Open, right?
Finally, I'd be concerned about judging a book by its (only combat rating visible) cover. Just because they don't fight doesn't mean they can't. Erm, except when they've dumped their weapons and gone for shields. That latter is a legitimate choice allowed by the game as FDev designed it.
