Elections "coup d'etat" over 60% inf and conflict status going bad

I did some research, testing and yes, there is an apparent problem with the missions. Sometimes it may give more influence to the opposing faction than to your own, see the first journal entry documented here.

So, you can actually do missions for the opposing faction to get the beneficial effect, but just certain missions and just when it targets your faction, until the problem will be resolved.

Ok...and what is supposed to do?
Investment:
- causes market changes (will need a lot more data to be specific, but it appears to be good for gem miners)
- causes outfitting availability changes (generally positive ones)
- possibly still increases expansion range under certain circumstances (e.g. if you expand from a system which is in Investment state?) - but more testing required.
- does not appear to affect system security level
- appears to improve faction happiness

There isn't a place where FDev explains this?
That's not how this generally works, no. There's a little bit of text on things like the mission screens, side panel, etc. that gives a broad indication of some of what it does - but the precise details of exactly what are for us to figure out.
