Electric Fence discussions

So I've been thinking about fences lately as I have been building novel accurate or movie accurate parks, and I was curious what other people thought of having purely electric fences like in the first movie where if the power goes out they are essentially just wires and the dino can tear through it quite easily. What do yall think? Fun concept or just a frustrating thing to deal with?

To add how it could work in game is that it has a higher requirement for power, but would keep most dinos at bay and only a few would test the fence and get shocked if they were irritated. But if the power went out it would be very easy for dinos to tear through the fence.

Well as it stands the only difference between any of the fences is the length of time it takes for a dino (any dino - even the ones that are basically naked ostriches) to get through. Basically, there's pretty much no point in even investing in stronger fences, instead you're better off keeping those comfort levels high so they don't even try and get out.

I think there was some confusion I wasn’t suggesting stronger fences just a different type that was featured in the movie, like I said an electric fence made of cables.

Huh, right you are.
Well I guess they could add fences like this. Makes you wonder why they didn't have them in the game already, actually...

I mean I could see how it would have made the fence dynamic for them to design a little more difficult, but it’d be nice if they added it later on

Assuming they do away with how every dinosaur can get through every fence, yeah. You haven't seen comedy till you watch a struthie go through an electrified concrete wall lol

The different fences were a nice idea but they just don’t seem to do anything besides look different. I just use the regular fence for the majority of enclosures in my parks. I may throw up the electrified concrete for the more temperamental dinos but don’t use any in between.

I do agree that the fences need work. Whenever my post on the wishlist gets approved I have already suggested the different fences have varying degrees of reliability and uses for different dinos.

This. So much this. The fences should have a strength/size threshold. Anything below that threshold shouldn’t be able to break out. Maybe kill themselves by knocking themselves silly, so you still need to manage comfort. I’d Evan make it so electrified concrete stops base big Dinos in their tracks. However, if you’ve meddled with their genome, particularly in aggression....

See the features are there. We need them connected lol.

yeah fences dont matter. just build concrete non-electrified fences so you dont have to build so many power stations. they are just as effective.
and if anything tries to break out, just build a wall in a triangle out side the enclosure where they are breaking out so they dont escape.
i've found 2 layers of fences to be far more effective than worrying about what type the fence is.

This. So much this.

Aside from the concrete wall holding Struthi's for me would be interesting if the electric fences gave you an actual alarm, to say where they've been touched by a dino, say in the last three minutes.

It takes a lot of concentration to listen for the thud of a dinosaur atacking a fence, so a collision alarm, triggered by the disrupted electricity supply might give a real advantage to using electrified fences? At the moment agree, the difference between electrified concrete and the plain concrete wall, seems negligible.

Skimmed over the thread, but would like to see more with fences too.

Fences should cause health to drop when being bashed, perhaps at low health they would stop and rethink, or let their angry mate take over to finish the job.
Breaking electrified fences should trip a switch at one of the power stations, turning the power off for an entire section :)
And of course, some dino's shouldn't be able to break through, like they currently do, with certain fence types.

I think the challenge going forward is preserving the threat of escapes with the new measures so that the balance is preserved under conditions that make more sense. Yes, getting a moat the rex can’t cross would be cool, but then make the gates breakable or dinos run for the open gate when the rangers pass through. Or, and I’d really love to see this, the raptors try the employee access doors at the viewing gallery or platform if the power is out.

Don’t personally like the moat or think it’s needed, but seeing the raptors behave like they do in the films would be a treat.
