Electronic Counter Measures [ECM] who uses this?

A build popped up in a recent thread that included ECM instead of Point Defence.

I have to admit I tried this once shortly after release and never looked at it again. It seemed a bit ungainly to use in the heat of combat and with the recharge time I was worried that NPC's missile spamming would render it useless.

Much time has passed: is this now useful, do many of us use it and if so how? [up]

I use it for Torpedo defense and thats about it.
 
I've been playing for a few years and I can say I've never used them. I think I fit them to a ship, once, just to see how they're used but other than that - not once have I tried to use them as intended. [And been no worse off for doing so]

Like I’ve never actually fired torpedos at even an NPC and then gone “PHOAAR! Take that you villainous scum!”
There kinda “Meh, I hope this does a bit of damage; what else have I got here?”
like - they’re “okay”

So I just don’t know if anyone would live in fear of torpedos enough to equip ECMs and remember which fire group they’d put them in.

Am guessing you are not firing them outside of the arming range, some of the warheads are likely not detonating.

Set the Cascades to primary (fire them first, above 3km range) Set the deepcuts to secondary (fire them a few seconds later, also outside of 3km's) Easy mode, waay too OP if you ask me.

The T-10 can hold a ridiculous amount of torps now after the recent upgrade, you just have to know how to use them.
 
I use it on my stealth bombers and big ships. 1 ECM is enough to play around with torpedo boats and lead them into their own ship. On a stealth bomber the ECM ensures I can escape before these emissive noobs hit my drives.
 
I'd like to change this to a short range EMP with a short cooldown, as a counter to packhounds spam. When you activate the EMP, all in flight munitions within a kilometer of your vessel are destroyed. Covers the original use as well, makes it awesome and more effective. 20 sec cooldown and empties your ENTIRE capacitor instantly, sys, wep and engine.
 
I was farming merits recently and I fired packhounds at one of the "hunter" NPCs. The packhounds headed toward the target as usual, then veered off harmlessly into space right before impact. It was obvious something interfered with targeting. I assumed this was a result of ECM.
