Elit: Some improvements.....

Hi Everyone,

Now that the games is well and truly up and running and moving along nicely, yes it doesn't always go the way want it too, but these are my subtle suggestions as to improve the game we have at the moment....

....I know everyone wont agree, but heh that is the world we live in and everyone has a right for there own opinion, please comment and hopefully we can get the attention of some of the dev team!!!

1, Missions

1.1 The ability to take ANY mission, no matter what the destination platform size. To deliver the cargo, the following should be introduced

1, The ability to transfer, individual mission cargo to another ship to achieve the mission at hand if the ship you have is too large.
2, The ability a 3rd party to deliver the cargo you cant.

1.2 Military missions.....

1, To get Military grade Weapons/ shields / internal and core systems, as rewards

2, NPC

2.1 If a ship is allowed 2 docking bays, then both should be able to be populated and piloted at the same time, otherwise it is a pointless waste of time to put this into the game.

2.2 Hire pilots, buy them a ships, give them money and allow them to trade.

3, Weapons systems....

3.1 Larger ships NEED rear facing weapons......
3.2 Flack cannons or some sort of automated close quarters defensive system

4, Military grade equipment available

4.1 Military grade weapons
4.2 Internal / Core system upgrades

5 Engineers

5.1 Not everyone wants too, or has the time to grind out mats to get the upgrades, so what is needed is to allow different options for users to get what they need to complete the upgrade:-

1, Buy from the engineer himself (for a greater price)
2, Starports / planets
3, Grind out the mats
4, For the top level upgrades, items are only available by completing missions

6, Wings

6.1 Wings are a great idea, they just need to be tweaked slightly to incorporate the following:-

1, ALL ships travel / jump at the speed of the slowest
2, If a ship is 'pulled' then ALL the ships in the wing are pulled out as well

To me these improvements, would improve and not distract from the game we have now, comment please....

Actually - I had the opposite thought with Wings. I thought that ganging up and jumping together might actually be like "circle magic" where the sum of the total is greater than the sum of the individual parts. That is, you might be able to make a 35 yr light jump with three of you, if individually you actually could only achieve 17, 21 & 26.

But then, you'd get into GhostBuster territory if you started crossing beam lasers... ;-)

These are all quality of life and core gameplay changes you might seem some after 2.4 as I've read Frontier want to go back and look at things like this.

Just to add turrets allow big ships to have rear weapons kinda of with multicrew.

Though balancing issues there etc

Alrighty:
1) I sort of agree but it could ruin smaller starports and leads to all sorts of "what ifs". What if that person you handed mission critical cargo to just runs away. How is the rewards split for them finishing the mission for you. etc etc. Much easier to implement a personal shuttle type thing thats time consuming but works.

As for transferring to another ship. If that ship has the cargo capacity to store the mission critical cargo your current ship has then you totally can switch ships.

1.2) Agree sort of. My personal thoughts are that there should be an engineers mission board where there is a higher chance of getting missions with rare materials and data and a lower chance of getting good credit rewards.

2.1) Nope, there's a reason for this. Using player controlled multicrew you can launch 2 fighters. The reason it's not allowed for 2 NPC fighters is balance. Fighters are insanely quick and do good damage. Lots of ships are designed to escape using their speed such as the Cutter, Clipper and a few others. By giving 2 NPC fighters per ship a wing of 4 could deploy 8 fighters and wreck anyone trying to escape using speed advantages which would seriously upset the balance..
The reason 2 fighters are ok for multicrew is that you cannot combine wings and multicrew.

2.2) No, won't happen. You are a pilot in a ship, not a manager of a fleet with spreadsheets, goes against the core of the game which is also the reason we can't do stock markets, own shares in stations etc.

3.1) Agreed

3.2) Sort of agree, personally I find a few turrets especially multi-crewed work well for this already, just gotta use a few hardpoints for it. Having automated defences would ruin the advantage that Vultures/Eagles have where they can stay in an opponents blind-spot right behind them. If all ships had close range defence then all battles would just turn into long range slogging matches or jousting matches where its all down to numbers and if you have the higher ones. Pilot skill should matter.

4) It's coming, they've already said aliens can't be damaged by the current weapons/engineered weapons so there has to be some new ones soon :)

5.1) No, No and nope. The whole reason you can buy materials/data with materials is to force you to try different things. People are complaining the game is dull yet that's because they used the latest exploit to get 4 billion credits and have never tried anything else. There's tons of stories about how engineers made a player try mining/exploration/combat or whatever and they found that they really enjoyed it and had missed a key piece of the game.

In lots of games there are "money can't buy" things. Elite has engineer mods and rank locked ships.

6.1-1 and 6.1-2) Navlock, this exists and is a thing. Just gotta make sure the shortest range wingmember is the one that initiates the hyperspace jumps.

Overall I agree with some of your thoughts but others are balance breaking, design breaking or against the game ethos.

Kool, I can see the validity to some of your points and see the reason behind why some of these would never see the light of day.....and some of them would need 'refining' to be workable in-game....

1.1 Yep pulling upto a starport and having a shuttle transfer the relevant cargo to complete a mission for a cost would be a workable solution, yeh it is time-consuming but that would have to be expected when you are taking a mission for somewhere were you cannot land....and would have to be weighed up by the pilot when he accepted it in the 1st place.

For the transferring cargo, it is kinda null and void if the above was implemented.

2. Ok, fair point for when you are in a Wing, tho maybe if you are just flying solo then this should be allowed...

2.2 Loh yeh that was a last minute thought as I was posting this....and would take you down the X3 route, where you can build stations etc etc.....but I have to say, it does have some appeal, yes you are getting away from the 'spirit' of Elite.....but with so much competition from other games, this might have an appeal and it would give even greater depth to the game.

3.2, I can see you point....but I only mean this for the 'larger' ships as to me a ship is so venerable from smaller fighters they would have some sort of close quarters protection.

5. To me this is the only point where I completely disagree with you....I trade, I do combat....I have never ever done an 'exploit' to make 4 billion credits, tis against the whole principle of the game, but for the life of me I have zero interest in mining....zzzzz, ooops sorry fell asleep even typing that!!!

As to me, if you go somewhere for an 'upgrade' then it is only logical that the person who you goto would have the 'Mats' to hand, in order to complete the task....don't get me wrong, I am not saying take it out of the game, as some people like doing that sort of thing....have the stuff at Stations for people to buy and you can take them to an 'engineer' so that the cost of the upgrade is cheaper......but the whole point of taking your ship to an engineer for an upgrade, is that they should have them there, it may cost you and extra arm and a leg to do, I am not saying make it easy or cheap.....but....to me they must have them there.....

6, You can, it does....thank you for the Youtube, I will watch it.

There are a lot of things that can be done, some probably wont work and would unbalance the game to much, but I think that there are many things, that with 'tweaks' could fit in nicely and enhance the game.

Cheers for you comments and thoughts.
