Elite / Frontier Elite 2: Frontier for Wiiware! It's time to get it on!!!

Elite 2: Frontier for Wiiware! Smooth the visuals, smooth the frame rate to silky 60 and include an online Roam Mode - where you might just bump into people online throughout the galaxy, and either team or conflict with one another at will.

Could be superb, and being on the Wii, I bet people will embrace it!

Steering with the nunchuck analogue, or via pointer on screen, as with old mouse controls, and shooting that laser with the B Trigger... WOWZER!

Let's get it on!

Seriously, you've got my vote, and cash!

Come on Dave!!!

As long as it is made specifically for the PC, i don't care if it is then ported to any console.

But it needs to be aimed solidly at the PC market in the first instance.

*EDIT*

Oh sorry i read that you wanted E4 for Wii.
My mistake...

As much as I'd love to see this on the Wii, I think Frontier should concentrate on getting new games out. Once they've released The Outsider and Elite IV <cough> <cough> then I'd be happy for them to revamp old classics.

Whether they'd want to is an entirely different question!

Are you saying you don't care what they do after Elite 4?

Or do you want them to start work on Elite 5? :D

I'm sure David's team could easily sort a Wiiware version out in no time. 3 months tops. Frontier that is.

I'm sure they could too - but the amount of money that it would cost in people time would be prohibitive. What may seem like an outwardly small job in coding terms needs to be looked at from a business sense and also from a reputation sense.

From a business perspective the investment and the returns from turning a game such as FE2 into Wii ware are from the investment end going to be expensive and from the returns end going to be minimal. The reason I say this is because the game is now very old and dated and quite likely outside the general Wii user demographic. Whilst the majority of people on this forum carry a flame for Elite and the subsequent games, the general user market out there would potentially find it quite difficult to warm to the game.

Reputation wise Frontier have set quite a serious benchmark with the quality of their initial Wii ware release Lostwinds. From both a production and gameplay standpoint Lostwinds does exceedingly well. There is now a set perception and expectation from their customers and releasing something like FE2 as a follow up to Lostwinds could, in my opinion, lose some of the built up customer momentum. The gaming industry is a very fickle and competitive thing and any gaming producer needs to step carefully and wisely if they are to hang around, something that David and Frontier appear to be doing quite well.

Steve, I agree completely. I figure that, despite being dated, Frontier is still a solid game. I believe it has some charm to it. But I can imagine how dreadful the reception could be for Frontier Developments if Frontier: Elite 2 was to appear on Wiiware. After Lost Winds, it would be a shockingly different game, and it offers nothing to the Wii in line with it's revolutionary control scheme and direction, I suppose.

Being dated, I guess many people wouldn't care to even give it a look, let alone care to play it long enough to enjoy it. The game isn't particularly exciting, really. I guess being the gamers who enjoyed it in it's prime, we retain appreciation for how good it was when it was released, and how deeply you could get involved with your 'career' in the game.

But, Steve, your post shows the truth and logic to how the business runs, and for that reason, I won't argue that Frontier should still appear on Wiiware... RATHER THE VIRTUAL CONSOLE, where many retro games are embraced! HAR HAR! With edited controls, of course!

heh - Don't get me wrong, I would love to see FE2 rehashed and available again and it would deffo swallow up a large amount of my time again :D
