Elite 360 degree panoramic screenshots for SteamVR background

I created several 360 degree screenshots you can use in SteamVR as a background. You can get them through the SteamVR Workshop here: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197970529543/myworkshopfiles/?appid=250820.

As an extra bonus for HTC Vive users, this way you can see what the interior of a space station would look like without the pixelation.
I've included 2 samples here but they're lower res than what you get trough Steam.

These are great, thanks!

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but how did you make these backgrounds? I'd like to create some myself if it's not too complicated.

Hi Vizvayu, I take a load of screenshots in desktop mode all around me and then use software to stitch it all together. I use Microsoft Research Image Composite Editor, which is free. But there are more free options available from what I understand.

The tricky part is that taking 15-30 screenshots takes some time and there are a lot of moving objects in Elite, space stations, astroids, planets and even stars. So I haven't been able to make a panorama inside a ring system, shots won't match and the software will not be able to stitch that.

It's fun though, so good luck!

Thank you very much for the info. I'll definitely give it a try.
By the way, which kind of projection did you use when stitching the images?

Spherical is what Image Composite Editor calls it. It automatically selects that after analyzing the screenshots.
