Elite / Frontier Elite 4 claims the throne!

...wasn't sure if you wanted your Frontier or Facebook persona:) After all your posts here, I think you deserve both:D I'm still rooting for Baggy End as a gloomy interstellar backwater where drinking and mining are all there is to do

Haha and a brief irreverent homage to Lord of the Rings :D

My Facebook is my real name - i.e. Steve ten Have so Steve Have would still be a bit odd! :p

I read it with interest but make no guarantees :p

The only guarantee I want (apart from the usual "Newtonian, blahblah, Jordanian controls, blahblah, SP, blahblah, Frontier-style systems, blah...") is that the ideas are read, considered and perhaps written down somewhere. :D

So does you reading it means that somewhere along the lines the ideas meet some sort of developer consideration?
You had to ask did you?

I am not sure how to answer that without running a significant chance of being misunderstood. If I am not here tomorrow then David has fired me ;)

To begin with, I see very little on this forum that we haven't already thought of internally - and sometimes included in the design and sometimes thrown away. We have - after all - been thinking about the design for a long time and just waited for the right opportunity to do the next game in the series.

Where ideas on this forum matches our thoughts on the design we kind of go "cool, they will be happy about that then". There are also ideas on this forum that won't be implemented in the game - they might be "bad" ideas, not technically achievable or just inconsistent with another feature - and so where we get that kind of mismatch we consider how do we make "our feature" accessible enough that gamers will enjoy it and feel that it was the natural choice?

This "our feature/idea" crap has nothing to do with arrogance really and everything to do with taking responsibility. It is a sign that ultimately we are the ones responsible for the design and so we have to trust in our own ability to determine what is best for the game to make it both a fun and consistent experience.

So your ideas are taken into consideration, but perhaps more indirectly than you thought. They are "nudges in a direction" rather than ideas from our point of view. For myself I hope you will keep on telling us what you want.

And I hope that makes sense as a reply.

You had to ask did you?

Well yeah, of course :D

I don't think that any of us are under the illusion that our wants/desires are at the forefront of the design process and that you guys have a better awareness of the demographic/market that you're targeting. I think it's just nice to know that we can have some sort of input if not an influence on the outcome of the game.

As for the design process, we can never expect all ideas to be implemented, the end result of a brain storming session is rarely if ever the use of all of them.

Your answer was perfectly clear and appreciated - Cheers Stefan.

Yep, thanks Stefan,

It's nice to think that whatever ideas that have been posted on here are actually read and taken into consideration (in whatever small way). How many other developers have the same level of interaction with their "customers" as Frontier Developements?

From my point it's always been appreciated.

Mind you if every idea thats been posted on here was included in the game we'll still be waiting another 12 years

Thanks for that Stefan.
As Steve and T.j. said, it's good to that the -to me- thoughtful debates on the forum are at least viewed by the dev team. We don't have the technical knowledge of you guys, but in the many discussions on the forum there does seem to be a kind of concensus. Of course, we hope that E4 will not only stay true to the soul of Elite/Frontier (I'm confident of that with DB at the helm) but surprise and delight us by being ahead of the curve as it's predecessors were.
Thanks for taking the time to engage in the forum: it's appreciated:)

okay... so no monetary rewards... but imagine flying to a distant system and entering Space Station Dragonstar! Ooooh! The chills it brings me! :D LOL!

As others have said... It's nice that we are read. Do you have enough cattle prods and whips to get the Devs moving? ;)

So much for the mutant star goat then,:)I still have high hopes of seeing that most desirable bit of ships equipment "the furry dice".:D
