Elite 4 vs Elite 2 vs EVE online

I played Elite 2 frontier when i was younger and enjoyed the game much.

Then few years ago i tried EVE online, which was fun the first year, then the restrictions within the game made the game completely borring.

So im wondering, what will be possible when u look at it from Eltie 2 viewpoint, and from a EVE viewpoint....

What is planned, what is implemented, what wont be and non the least, what are the restrictions for players within the game.

In Elite2, u could travel so far away that u ended up in systems that wasnt explored or visited before... will that feature be in Elite4?

Will travel from system to system be based on same principals as Elite2?

Will landing on planets be the same procedure as in elite2?

Will trade be based upon npc prices or will it be human controlled prices.

Will u be able to controll one ship? or can u have a fleet of ships following u, run by npc pilots following ure orders?

Will there be huge player controlled industry?

Can borring repetative task be outsourced to npc pilots?

If anyone has a link to a page where all the features for Elite4 is? implemented, under Development or planned?

I have so many questions, but im kinda lazy to begin searching for every answer myself :D

most of all, im drawn to Elite4 just because of the nostalgy of Elite2... so Elite4 better not dissapoint me ;)

Like TJ said the Design Discussion Archives are a good place to start. There a link to them below my signature. And welcome to the forum. :)

Although our dear mods (/hi Geraldine!) gave you the right pointer to get info, Id just like to inform you that ED (AKA Elite 4) will have about 400 billion star systems. So there is the odd chance that some system might, just might, not been visited before :p

After all, if ED was launched with 1 million players online, it only would be 400 thousand systems per player :D

Comparing EVE to either SC or ED it like comparing chalk and cheese. EVE is nothing like either titles. the only ting these title share is spaceships ... that's it.

ED is especially far from EVE, being as ED is more of a single player game and EVE is an MMO.

Played them all from EVE to Earth and Beyond upto Elite. I found Elite the best IMHO and very much like what I have seen so far in ED. I suspect it's similar for the majority of the backers. ;-)

Not quite. ED is all about a spaceman and his ship - Eve is all about control, greed and empires.

Chalk n Cheeeeeese! LMAO!.......e'hem, but yeah theres no comparison, one has cobras!

So what happens next month when I use up my allotted 400,000 systems, can I pinch someone else's? :)
Yeah, the galaxy is huge, so huge in fact that you wont be bored unless that mining laser gets you! :)
The prices in the market place depends on the type of system it, how was it is to get commodities and how players interact with it so it stays fluid.

Have never played eve because it didn't grab my sense of adventure the way elite does.

Yes.

Will travel from system to system be based on same principals as Elite2?
There will be seamless, near-instantaneous travel between systems using a special hyperdrive. There will be supercruise for traveling within a system at above light speeds.

Will landing on planets be the same procedure as in elite2?
You will not be able to land on planets. However planetary landing and EVA are planned for an expansion.

Will trade be based upon npc prices or will it be human controlled prices.
Trade is rooted in a background simulation, but players can affect market tendencies.

You can have multiple ships, but only fly one at a time. It's not a fleet or squadron sim.

Will there be huge player controlled industry?
No.

Can borring repetative task be outsourced to npc pilots?
Don't think so, but not sure.

Apart from the DDF, http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Elite:_Dangerous_FAQ has good info.

I see one problem with the OP's question (and thread title) ... Elite 4 (aka Elite IV) does not exist. I have this from Michael Brookes himself in person.

I don't think you can compare Eve and Elite just because both play in space, they are fundamentally different in their game play and goals.

What restrictions made eve boring? Eve is only fun (IMHO) when played in a group of people because the game is made in a way that you can't create big things alone except you put a lot time and effort into multiple characters.

tnx

tnx for all the replies, always good to see so many elitefans rounded up in one litterbin :D

A quick question, i checked the beta, did i understand it correctly that if i buy the beta, i also get the "finished" game when its offically released?

And who wants to buy my eve toons?? :D

btw, im activly arguing on the eve forums that EVE is about to loose many players to Elite 4, which i assume is correcct.... and how many here has played EVE. And what future do u see for EVE when Elite4 is released?

No change - they're fundamentally different games. I doubt Eve will lose many players, some might play both but I don't think many will defect. Hard to tell where most of the players will come from once it's finally released - in my perfect world they'd all be strategy and RPG fans and professional astronomers!
