Can I get one of these bad boys?

I just did a search for a big red button. They appear to be standard USB peripherals so by the time FD get the multiple controller issue sorted you will be ready to rock! If not for Hyperspace then a big red eject button! :)

Hopefully very little difference between the two....

If it ain't broke, don't fix it....

As for realism, maybe those people should play a simulator instead, all those long words they keep using in their posts is hurting my head.... :S

As for fun, play Elite :)

It's not a black and white issue. It's not 'people who want realism' Vs 'people who want fun'. Some aspects of the game will be very realistic, like the scale, even though it doesn't need to be from a 'fun' perspective. However it was that realistic scale that made Frontier magical, and got me interested in space. The flight modal of that game taught me some basic lessons in physics in a more 'hands-on' way then I was ever taught at school. However, if it had just been a simulator it wouldn't have been fun or fired my imagination like it did.

The realistic elements of that world allowed me to believe in it, to experience what the future might be like one day. However I know that the future will never be like Elite: Dangerous because that's not how objects travel in space. It's a big downside to me even though I accept it as a better thing for the game overall.

I think he means Frontier rather than Elite. But I would rather the ship not pilot like I was in a turret so what we have is fine. It's not likely to change now, this argument has gone on and on for ages now, off and on etc. It is what it is.

Besides, there is always the DFM in SC. I hear the yaw on that buggy is full-on! :p

I'm still hoping that smaller ships and fighters can be upgraded with thrusters to allow for much higher turn rates. I want that BSG viper feel, even though I'll be rubbish at it :)

Having an Anaconda, or larger, vessel turning around like a Sidewinder is a terrifying prospect! :)

I can just imagine the plucky pirate taking on one of those:

"Now we'll just slide in behind him, hiding in his engine wash and let him have.....Holy ****! Crazy Ivan!!" :)

This is genuinely as good as the original on the beeb, there seems to be a weight to the ship there is a stress on the engines to accelerate, turn and stop. But the best thing? After nigh on thirty years and very high hopes, my imagination has been realised. And this is from the combat alone, this is just fun, it's easy to pick up, definitely needs head tracking of some sort, (I'm going to look at OR for this) and is actually satisfying just to fly around aimlessly trying the flight assist on and off and circumnavigating other ships while not trying to blow them away. Does the sidewinder turn silly fast? Hell no and it's the better for it, it is a struggle to out turn, out shoot and out think other players.

I wasn't going to extend myself to the alpha, but I did. The first time I started it I was actually concerned that it wouldn't live up to expectations, it did, boy oh boy it did.

If any of the backers are irrationally attached to this game from their childhood (1984) you won't be disappointed. It is that familiar.

That sounds exactly what I wanted to hear.

I'm not sure if I'll take the head tracking route though. That might be taking things a little bit too far for me. Who knows though..
