Elite Academy?

After reading so many threads about the same old issues it set me wondering. What if we develop and instigate a player run academy?
It could include many issues that new players and those who have played for a while but need some tutorials on certain aspects.
There would have to be a good selection of tutors included for it to work but maybe it would be a good way for some of the more experienced players to take on a new challenge.

I know those of you out there who beat your chests are going to poo poo it but I think the idea may go a long way to stop some of the moans and gripes on here.

So what do you all think? Anyone willing to try it out, just to see how it works?

Oh, and I have only just considered it so if there is already one out there I apologise I certainly haven't seen anything like this.

Ha ha, yeah I guess I should have gone for a better title. That's the trouble with ideas during the lunch break.

But it's the best way to describe it. Each person coming along could post their problems and then someone could be organised to help them surmount it. It has to be worth trying I would have thought.

I'll help you think through this if you like? I'm probably not on enough or good enough to help many but I like the idea. Shoot me a message if you want.

I'd like that.

Manuals and watching video tutorials is fine for understanding general concepts, but can still leave plenty of questions.

I like the idea. I also think that a big overhaul of the tutorial missions is required. It would help to be able to go through escaping interdiction etc in an environment where death only means resetting the tutorial and trying again.

Thanks all, I'm back to work in a mo but I'll contact everyone interested later if that's okay - and all help is good help. If you don't have loads of skills the skills you do have can still be utilised, even if it's working on the very basics of the game.

Some groups already have a training academy. The one I belong to will be starting shortly. It'll cover pvp and pve combat, mining, trading, exploration, bgs and many more things. We already have regular exploration holidays which we do together as a team.

Mm

Is it open to people not in your group though and do you openly advertise it?

I'm thinking of a unit that has no connections with any factions or ideals. Just a place where anyone of any skill level can come for advice, training or support.

I have send some PMs out people but we could do with quite a few more. Even if you would like to benefit from this I would like to hear from you.

isnt galactic academy discord exactly this?

I was told about that before, but looked into it and could only find a locked announcement thread from Sept 2015 that linked to what appeared to be a dead forum.

If the Galactic Academy is something that's actually active, then yeah, the entire concept they set out in that initial announcement thread sounds ideal.

Edit: Just had another look. Seems it was run as just a 10 week program over October last year. If there's any further activity it's not made clear.

THIS: If it's still around? Also - no reason why people can't keep their existing academies - we could set up something that advertises all of those so that people can easily figure out where to go etc.

I always liked the chat feature in certain older games like DAoC, where you could flag yourself as an advisor. Newer players could then type /advice (Insert message here) and it would be assigned to an advisor player to respond.

I really don't know, as per the original post I haven't seen anything on the forums.

Maybe it's a mute point then. It just doesn't seem very easy to get to, or maybe people just don't look for it.
