Elite / Frontier Elite AGB / Arc Elite question

I'm pretty much a newbie and I am playing Elite DS which is a port of Elite AGB on the GBA which I think is a port of Arc Elite?

I've started a new game, hyperspaced to Diso and trying to dock. However ships always come out when I try to dock and crash into me. Am I supposed to wait for clearance or something?

I don't ever recall waiting for clearance, but I do remember some near misses with exiting ships. One thing you could try is stopping outside the station and time the ships leaving. See if they are on a set schedule. If so, just time your docking runs in between the times the other ships leave the docking port. Hope that helps you.

Also, you might try checking your options while outside the station.

I have the DS version as well, and one thing I noticed was that the game was bugged. Sometimes (randomly) you would open up your ship options (right bumper, you know, to change views, jump, etc. et.c) and have docking computers! Even though your ship did not have them installed.

Was how I docked my first time actually. The option appeared, and I just docked that way. Otherwise, I just get real close, and wait for ships to exit the station.

Its been a while since I played however.

Yes I have noticed the docking computer bug! I thought it was maybe a feature in Arc Elite but I guess not.

If this version is that bad then I still have the GBA version as an option. Do you know if that had problems? Or the New Kind?

I can't vouch for TNK as it was before my time. The GBA version should still be the same as the DS in core code at least, I hear it has less bugs, but I never messed around with modding a GBA, so I dunno. Let us know if you notice anything!

I'm always on the lookout for a good handheld ELITE. DS seems the best choice for now.

Ahah!

Ive been in contact with Richard Quirk (The fellow who compiled and ported TNK and ELITEAGB to the Gameboy and DS.) and he told me the auto-docking is a FEATURE. Any planet of tech level 12 or above offers auto-docking for 25 credits! Therefore I was wrong about the bug.

He also mentions updating the current versions. One with the option to start in the Cobra III. (Which is great, I abhore the Adder with every fiber of my being.)

If you've got a Gameboy/DS and know your way around Homebrew's, keep tabs on his site. Alot of cool stuff in the works.
