Elite and Eve

I honestly would compare it with Earth & Beyond before going to EVE, but I guess different tastes and all that. I personally never tried EVE, because the idea of waiting to skill up sounds like the most boring thing ever for an MMO. It's like if I'd AFK from a raid party and let them harvest the xp for me. What's the point in that? E&B I found by accident, and since it's abandoned now, it was on a server emulator. It was fun, but I had technical issues connecting to the different star systems, so had to give it up.

And Elite is Elite. It is the spiritual successor to the game that made me cringe and cry in the mid 90ies, when my ship got vaporized by the first pair of pirates I ever met on my way to Barnard's Star :p I think it captures that quite nicely in this iteration, until you learn the ropes.

I still feel like you can't compare the games, just the various reactions to them. In Eve i felt as if i piloted a spaceship, i feel the same way in Elite.

I'm was just trying to convey why the two games are really different in a humorous way, no ill intentions towards EVE :D

I wrote it in a biased way favoring ED because this is the ED forums and I wanted to express in what ways I prefer ED over EVE. If in EVE forums, I was trying to say what I prefer in EVE over Elite, I'd say, In EVE, you get to run your own corporation! In Elite, you don't get to run your corporation.

Very different games with very different tastes.

I would have repped your first post but I haven't spammed rep enough since I last repped you so virtual rep.

I enjoyed Eve for a few months but it didn't have any content for a solo player. I thought it was going to be Elite: online when I first heard about it. But I was pretty disappointed on that front.

Now I actually have Elite: Online.

Eve should be recognised for its achievements. It's the only game that kept the entire space genre going, has a huge player Base and has some amazing stories from its players. It's unique.

But it's not Elite: Online.

I played EVE for about 8 years in total. It's a fantastic game, but as most posters here have said, it's very different to Elite.

I think that FDEV have been very smart not to overlap their game too much with EVE, especially on the player groups angle. EVE will always be the best game for building up space empires with big groups of players and smashing them together in massive battles. Elite doesn't need to and really shouldn't try to compete with that, but instead focus on being the best game for one girl (or guy) in a ship in a huge galaxy to play around in.

EVE is totally different, imho. Elite is mainly based on piloting skills. In EVE that is not an issue, the game has other aims.
The games of choice for Elite pilots after Encounters were XBTF, X-Tension, X2 and X3, which were based on the Elite idea. These were all games where you actually flew the ship, and (except XBTF), had multiple ships, up to and including capital ships. Exploring was a little limited (but necessary for the way the game worked), but factory ownership was nicely implemented. They even had combat skill ranks like Elite (I think X-Treme in, for example X3, was harder to achieve than Elite is now).

I think our Eve'atars would have hooked up ;)

So very THIS. ED should always try and not incorporate too many aspects of EVE, however fantastic it might seem to have a player driven 'Power Play', as that's what EVE basically is or could be called. I liked EVE very much. I have flown in HighSec, Providence and across several of the Northern Wars with Razor Alliance. I had a blast and I have also see how vile Humans can turn on each other over a killmail.cStill, I like EVE very much for the universe it created.

I also like ED very much, especially for every bit it is not like EVE.

I've been playing EVE for seven or eight years; it's harsh and unforgiving but great game, real sandbox with plethora of choices and paths to walk (and excellent lore, btw). ED has lot of potential to become good sandbox as well, although in different way. I admit I am not enjoying it as much as I would like due to its (still) simplistic nature and poor player/player and player/environment interactions, but it's still young game - hopefully, FDEV will be able to afford development and upgrades in years to come.

Semi related to Elite. Whats your opinion and or analogy?

Elite: Dangerous = Fighter
Eve Online = Capital Ship
Well it of course varies from people to people, especially considering the amount of player driven content/depth EvE has, but to me;
EvE Online = Fleet Combat.

In the words of Feyds:
"I don't have too much time to fawn over my new Tengu though, as I quickly find myself receiving a jabber ping and warping to our bridge-out point for an op. As I land and lay eyes for the first time on a Titan up close, I almost fall behind on the jump command, staring gobsmacked at the gorgeous behemoth that many capsuleers can only dream of owning one day. You really haven't experienced EvE, until you are slingshotted alongside 256 of your bro's into a hot zone by one of these things, reminiscent of the landings perhaps from Starship Troopers or Aliens."

Damn that post is beautiful, rep to ya. Debating on pulling my Eve avatar for my elite avatar.

Never played EVE, but every time I watch that This is Eve video a little bit of wee comes out. I don't understand most of it, but it looks fracking epic.

(I also watched the This is REALLY Eve video, which would kinda turn me off it a bit... )
