Elite Cheats and Exploits

Is there a list of Frontier’s fixes for Elite Dangerous’ ‘testers’ cheats and exploits? - A confessional?

With Beta 2 launch date, 30th Sept 2014 announced (hopefully with a full wipe) it would be refreshing, dare I say encouraging to see the weaknesses (cheats) that have been reported and fixed recently.

have seen a few confessions of exploitation of ED's gameplay in other threads so wanted to 'bump' & encourage some more.. post here if you dare:rolleyes:

Whats the likelyhood Frontier will post it's fixes against such naughtyness after Beta 2's launch?

Maybe they are still working their way through all the honest hackers messages received via tickets

Beta 2 is promised to be big so what the hell.. run away from everyone.. till it's fixed eh?

It's already been said that there will not a be a wipe for next beta phase.

Also, I highly doubt FD will post anything about cheats or exploits. By them explaining what they fixed or found would alert anyone hacking or exploiting to know their methods are detected and attempt to circumvent them.

Whatever known hacks/bots/exploits or otherwise will be silently fixed more than likely.

I also doubt we are allowed to discuss those topics on this forum.

yeh' knew about the lack of wipe - shame but accepted and somewhat expected as time progressed toward Beta 2 !

Silently fixing exploits is good yes BUT it would be encouraging to hear that FD are on the case... maybe they could give a few examples, maybe some players could come forward and tell us how it's not poss to do this and that anymore..

I tend to play a new release then read the forum to realise folk have found ways to gain outside the intention of the game.. I get disillusioned and wait till the next release - rinse and repeat.

My thinking is:

By not letting us know about every fix, they allow a single-blind confirmation of the actual fix. If no one is looking for a specific problem, you get a much more honest testing of the UX, which is what we're really doing at this point.

There's usually something in the changelog that infers an exploit fix. I don't expect FD to ever come out and simply tell us about an exploit, and the majority of people who are searching for and ticketing them are also reluctant to post the method until after they've been fixed. This seems to be working well.

What we don't know about are exploits that have been discovered but not reported. FD have always said that during this phase they welcome people trying to uncover the game's weaknesses. But what they won't tolerate come release is people hacking the game for personal gain.

I can confirm there was a residual exploit found & reported that was fixed server-side (extremely quickly, within 24 hours I believe) with no new client build so for those looking for reaffirmation or some insider knowledge that Frontier is seriously fixing exploits I can verify they are. I hope that brings some solace to those who feel a lack of exploit eradication notification means nothing is being done.

wow... is that post a quiz of negative positives? can't quite work it out..

to those that think Frontier 'not' posting what they've found being a good thing I suggest that it is better to be honest and out there, perhaps challenging the hacks to let them run riot through alpha/beta/gamma.

Tis better the devil you know

Banning exploiters should only occur when the final game is released and the ban stick needs to be merciless in order to send a message.

During testing exploiters should go to town and break everything they can.

That depends, if you happen to find an exploit and report it, the last thing that should happen is punishment. Not all hats are the same.

FD will no doubt have it's internal rules, but my two pennyworth is that if you find an exploit and report it, all should be good, whether it's beta, gamma, final release blah blah.

Finding an exploit and using it for your own personal gain - not cool. IP permaboot to Ironman mode would be my judgement. And yeah I know that can probably be got round too. But if you have to resort to cheats like that, what does that say about you?

Sounds like you are fishing for which hacks not to try ;)

he he, no I'm genuinely not looking to try out any hacks - it would spoil everything for me.

Testing the game includes finding all the loop holes, weaknesses etc and glad to read that many folk have found some... Beta 2 is going to big and I'm really looking forward to playing (sorry 'testing') it - i just thought it would be encouraging to read what FD have found and stopped

I think the punishment for hacking and not giving the details to frontier should be at least confiscation of all in game assets, expulsion from the pilots federation, and vastly increased insurance costs, may be even a permanent bounty on your head.

.... or sent to an isolated pocket of a dozen systems or so that are all a couple of hundred light years from *anywhere*.
