It depends on the materials you want to use for the statue, I would go with gold myself
Seriously now: it depends on the rank of the other pilots you are killing, it is not an "hard number"

On a serious note:
As previously stated the level of the pilots seems to add to the equation,
maybe the ship type and cost of the equipment also does.
i'm at expert on just under 700 bounties, I think it changed from competent when I got to 600 or so.
I think that's how it's supposed to work, the problem is though it's just as easy to kill an elite npc as it is a harmless one!

I'm not sure it does. I was promoted to Novice on my 200th kill and then Competent on turning the 300 mark. I believe you need to turn 1000 before getting Average which is when the thresholds get further apart. Over 10,000 is needed for Elite.
Dude, put the numbers back where they came from. Im an expert with 600 kills.
Dont claim things youre not sure about.

In means of the competition FD clearly stated that only a fresh wiped save at the beginning of release is fit to compede on the pricemoney
you are rewarded on reaching the elite status.
