Elite D Landing for Real?

I don't understand what the big deal is here and why the pilot was so scared. This is a VTOL aircraft, so even without the stool he would have landed relatively softly without injury.

That might not have been the case without the stool, as the nose would have dropped on the deck, possibly shattering the raddome (if it was a radar equipped AV-8B Plus) and sending debris into the cockpit or just from the impact (due to the higher height) alone cause concussions or broken bones.

I'd imagine it's fairly tricky on a moving aircraft carrier with wind shear. Which makes me contemplate just how cool/hairy ED atmospheric landings are going to be. :)

If he landed incorrectly and the nose missed or glanced off the stool, he could have broken the nose section off the jet, injured/killed himself, started a fire or all three.

...not to mention he'd pretty much be at full throttle since he's hovering, and the nose dipping might be enough to send the aircraft forwards into the water. So it's hairier than it looks.
