Elite Dangerous | 2025 Roadmap

Hi All :)

Question:- Is the roadmap in this initial topic still valid?
I am quite intrigued by Phase 5's content of 'ships new feature', I was also wondering what 'new' in this context means. 🤔...and also if the roadmap has been radically altered from the initial post. I suppose I'm asking is there going to be an update on this. :)

Jack :)
It's not Ship's New Feature.

It's New Ship + New Feature.

At least, that's how I interpret it.

We've not heard anything from Frontier to suggest otherwise. The first two parts have happened. The recent monthly streams talked about the ship (Panther Clipper) and Vanguards for the summer release which suggests the third part is going to happen too (whether it stretches the definition of summer for timing or not). After Vanguards and the Panther are out they'll presumably reveal a few more details about the next bits.

Mostly yes though some of the spoilered stuff in it is now known or even history.

Two things not one, yet another ship as well as a new feature in the game, with hopefully new meaning new rather than reworked or returning old feature.

Not the one they let us see.

Hopefully not until at least 2026, still not a fan of published roadmaps even ones as minimalist as this one.

"Summer" being the last day before the winter solstice...

I would've said July, but we'll see. Not personally hugely interested in Vanguards but I'm sure those more active in squadrons will find it of great value. Probably.

Oh yes, that expansion will open up a whole set of possibilities for members of the squadron. Like coordination of fleet carriers during colonization. The option to borrow ships to support the current squadron goals. And more important, carriers with 50K cargo capacity. Also, we hope for the much expected Panther Clipper MKII. Our Squadron is now colonizing and just got our own minor faction. That opens up for BGS and such, with increased possibilities for federal ranking in our own "bubble". The game changes in so many ways with the Vanguard expansion.

Got a suggestion for Vanguards, dear FDev folks.

First off, tip-top effort on what you're releasing to the player base. The PC Mk2 release, together with the in-quick-succession CG for eng'd cargo racks, is testament to your listening and responding to us all.

So, here goes: on the Squadron Carrier, I've been speaking to vets in my squadron. Seriously consider adding the means for vet commanders with the appropriate (ie higher) permissions to be "squadron artificers", kind of a roving guild of "interstellar master ship-n-suit smiths" that might not come with the first release of the Vanguards feature, but really give it some consideration as a post-MVP enhancement.

This could offer vet commanders so inclined to support and nurture junior, fresh-to-the-galaxy commanders, who struggle with engineering. For example, they might take a ship request from a squadron member, such as a CZ Vulture. The "squadron artificer" then could refer to specs put together on EDSY or Coriolis - no integration required at this point - and build a ship that can be loaned out to squadron members only. Also, such squadron built-and-owned ships (and suits potentially) can go some ways to creating a sense of collective ownership and commitment, a true squadron.

Squadron artificers/engineers also take a cut of the overall prices to build; % to work out based on ship model, size of modules, grade engineered to, etc.

So in-short, the means to loan and sell ships to squadron members. If a commander exits a squadron, they lose all rights to those ships crafted for them by the resident shipyard artificers. Squadron artificers could be offered the option to sell on ships to squadron members, who are then the whole owners of the ship. If the ship is then owned by a squadron member who, at some point, leaves the squadron, they can, on agreement from the squadron, to take that ship with them. Otherwise, it stays with the squadron.

Again, consider adding "suit artificers" to the suite (forgiving the pun) of Squadron Carrier facilities.

Plenty to run with there 🙂

Loan yes, sell no.

You can already sell ships on your carrier, at the market price, or with a fixed tariff on ship and outfitting. Now I can have 5 Panther Clippers outfitted and ready for hauling to my squadron members to assist in different goals, also those that are completely broke. Not sure about how the rebuy will work tho, that will be an interesting part of this.

You cant sell engineered ships which would be a no from me, normal ones sure but we've been doing that for yonks.
