Elite Dangerous, a 360 pneumatic chair and an occulus !

I was watching the latest dev diary and suddenly thought, what if combined with the occulus you had a chair that could swivel, rotate and vibrate (subwoofer attached for example) and give you the movement of the ship including small G-force simulation etc ! I think immersion with this setup would be an understatement. Is there anything out there like that because if this game lives up to what the developers are claiming then this literally would be what I've been waiting for my entire life !

personaly i would like to see some form of interactive glove , so that i press the ingame buttons / touch pannels . also im considering This obviously all while wearing a rift.

now to look at your chair . . . :D

That'd be cool but there'd need to be some kind of software to get it to work in tandem with the rift or the rift will mistake the ship's movements for head movement.

you attach the rifts reciver to where the monitor is in the vid , that way you are both moving in sync. and any jostling of your head will be jostling of your head inside the rift also :D

Having had time on a real flight simulator (I won 30 minutes in a competition back in the 2000's, and I'd also played the articulated Afterburner to death as a kid) I'd say it'd be not as exciting as you'd think.

Yes it does move, yes it feels great. No it doesn't perform everything you see on screen, and no it certainly doesn't have full freedom of movement - at least in my limited experience.

The closest thing I have ever come to a real flight experience (except for flying of course), has been to take a ride on a motorbike. Any new 600cc+ motorcycle will absolutely thrill you to bits, and if you find enough hills and dips, it really does feel like flying in a strange way.

Of course, it's a linear travel, and a motorcycle can't rotate or hyperspace :( It can, of course, bank like a champion - and what an utterly lovely feeling that is :)

Indeed, also in your cockpit whilst in space you are not feeling that 1g downward pressure like say flying level in an aircraft. You really want to trying and sim it, you take that chair and your oculus, waterproof them all, get yourself in a wetsuit, stick yourself in a pool then sim flying your ship! As close as you'll get with that setup. It'll cost ya a bit though. :D

Then again ... you could always get a high powered laptop with your oculus, run a program to link your ships movement to one of these:

only one objection. its yellow , i dont want to fly in a vogon constructor ship

what you really need for the full experience is to put a 6 DOF rig at the end of an astronaut centrifuge (like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FBJegTfF9Kg)

then you can simulate from -20 to +20 G in any direction

maybe DB will build us one if he makes megabucks :D

ok, except 0G
for that he would have to build it in orbit.

You really really REALLY don't want to be pulling 20 g's! When it comes to piloting, and pulling high end G's, women are going to kick our ass! :D Count yourselves lucky they are in the minority right now here in ED, when the female clans arrive ... you can kiss all this male domination thing goodbye! :D Well ... unless you you get you basic flight training done here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8i04jBLI5I&feature=share&list=RDYjg6mRFzZzE&index=2

Here's what 9 gs will do for ya .. :D

Oh I don't know about that, the ability to wipe out planets and such with the press of a button? Ability to create your own XR galactic highways? Oh ... maybe not so bad. :p
