Elite Dangerous: A Newcomer Perspective

If your spending 40 minutes on a single trip you are doing something wrong. On rare occasions you may be out there for 10-15 minutes without interdiction. If you pick a station that is a LONG way from the system entry point. You can check this in the galaxy/system map to get some idea. Most of the time it takes less than 7 minutes.

I think that supercruising more than 350,000ls is a bit tiresome too and sometimes think that you should be able to purchase an astromech R2 like computer to let you jump between certain large bodies in some systems, but limit how short a jump you can do and make it expensive. Either in price or depleted resources and added risk.

The game is supposed to be closer to a sim. There are dozens of console space combat games. The whole Rogue Squadron series and then stuff like HAWK or whatever it was called. I don't keep track because I detest those games. Elite isn't one of those, it probably would have gotten nowhere if it had tried to be.

Having said that I would like to see my ship from an external camera occasionally, but definitely not an arcade third person view while flying. I absolutely detest driving games with out an internal dash view, For someone that enjoys driving they are ridiculous. I can't fly a real spaceship, but I like Elite because it tries to give you a decent impression of flying one. I do think a rear view camera and display wouldn't be unreasonable, along with proximity sensors in ships that have poor visibilty that makes manouvering difficult (especially without headtracking).

ED isn't supposed to be an arcade game. If you want a third person MMP space combat game right now. Something like star conflict might be more your thing. A bit like War Thunder in space.

seems i picked the right game. Also, god forbid FD make me walk around. anywhere. ever. I don't want to render my OWN legs, much less other people's.
