Elite Dangerous - Alien Isolation?

If you haven't played Alien Isolation you won't have a clue what I'm talking about, but...

The interface sounds are clearly from the same sample CD or pack. This is extremely creepy. The little 'whirrs', 'clicks', 'gas discharges' and ... OMG the motion tracker "new motion" noise from AI! Makes my skin crawl when I hear it. Really adds a different level of tension to ED using these same sounds.

Also, it's not just the sounds. Spot any similarities here?

Out of interest and no, not trying to sell anything, Alien Isolation is truely one of the scariest game experiences I have ever had. It's the only game I didn't complete and had to stop playing because it was scaring the living hell out of me and give me far too much anxiety and stress!

Always loved the atmosphere of Jerry Goldsmiths original soundtrack. It's properly 'in space,no one can hear you scream' music. Alien isolations remake of it is good, but it doesn't make me shiver like the original. :)

One of the best horror games ever! For sure the best SciFi horror game! I played it though twice, you are doing yourself a disservice by not completing the game, the way the Alien AI hunts you is awesome!

The only thing that Elite and Alien Isolation have in common is awesome sounds design! Both are masterfully well done, when the Alien is in the vents and you have nice 5.1 set up it sounds like it is crawling though your ceiling.

Totally agree on the sound design being awesome. The sound stage in Alien Isolation is so immersive, as is ED in a different way.

I played Alien Isolation with expensive headphones and it's so creepy, keeps you on the edge of your seat listening to the alien rummaging and hunting around. Especially the noise of him dropping out of vents! The attention to detail regarding the psychology, suspense and tension is amazing.

I made it right through to shutting down the core near the end, but I just got killed too many times and decided to give it a rest as it was too stressful LOL

That's what happens when you pick up a leathery egg and store it in a Type 9 star freighter.

I'm replaying AI on nightmare and it's actually easier than novice mode.

The xeno on novice doesn't patrol as aggressively, he sometimes just stands in 1 place and derps for a while. Which means he doesn't show up on the motion tracker or make footstep noises.

I"ve rounded a corner and run face first into the novice xeno so often I got the achievement for having my face eaten 100 times.

Brilliant video.

Now imagine replacing Thargoids with Xenomorphs and adding the top notch Alien sound design on top, I'd turn into a crop farmer double time. Nothing could get me out into space anymore, especially not deep space exploration.

It took me a while until I was able to finish Alien Isolation but boy there's some fantastic missions towards the end. Missions where I outright wanted to refuse to do what I was supposed to do. :D Fantastic.

So Elite with an Alien feel anyone? Especially once you can explore your own ship? :D The stuff of nightmares...

I'm sure whatever Fdev have planned for this year, it will have superb sound

So wait for the next update and prepare to have your face removed by some horror from beyond the void.

Bill

Or is that season 3? ;)

Well, when walking around on your ship becomes a reality, maybe you'll land on a seemingly deserted planet and take off with an unknown and unwelcome visitor aboard?

For anyone that hasn't played it, this is a fun video to watch... at volume or on headphones and with the lights out.

I'd suggest parental advisory...

God, wouldn't a mission like this be great?

Not necessarily landing on the Alien planet etc., but bits and pieces of the whole scenario. Like, for example, in Alien: the Nostromo was rerouted to LV-423 and its crew woken up because of the alien signal. And the crew had to investigate the signal, otherwise they wouldn't get paid.

So, say pilots who have Imperial or Federation rank are rudely yanked out of supercruise and told to investigate a particular signal on a particular planet, knowing that if they don't, they'll lose rank... and knowing that what they find there isn't going to be the best thing for long-term survival.

The absolute dearth of imagination in ED's Stepin Fetchit quests is mind-boggling.

Yea that game was great. I played with headphones on the hardest difficulty scary and tough felt like a great achievement completing it - exhausting would be a fitting description :D

It was a pain to beat that part but it is possible, use re-direction, and you will die allot until you get that part figured out.

Does the rift come with free underwear? I hope so for your sake ;)

To be honest I don't know if I could stomach Alien Isolation on the rift.

Could you imagine hearing the aliens foot steps behind you and having to turn your head to see if it's there or not.

I agree, the alien facehugger the way they can pop up in grab you would be intense in VR 1 inch from your face!
