Elite Dangerous and Distant Worlds 2 featured in New Scientist article (subscription required)

Y'know, I look at these articles you see in the likes of Rock Paper Shotgun and so forth, and then I look at the comments on those articles and my own experience of the game, and I have to wonder ... exactly what does Frontier have on those bloggers? It's 2019 and no-one's shockable any more, what could possibly constitute the kind of blackmail material required to get someone to make up so much guff in such astonishing quantity?

Is it really just the advertising $$$? Wouldn't know, haven't seen an ad online for years.

Presumably they'll be doing a follow-up article once the scientific papers are released?

Looking forward to "The role of Psychopathy in the coordination of on-line player groups within Massively-Multiplayer Online Environments" and the related "Predator / Prey functional response in extended group simulations" - should be good reads.

Shame they are using a concept art to illustrate their article... or how to disappoint new players potentially brought by this article.
Shame you can't read the article for free too.
Ha, well... what is this distant world thingy anyway?

"sciency"
this game is a nerds heaven if you put in the time to understand it. honestly i loved first booting up the game and seeing the effort put into it. but hearing any journal publication speaking about it just seems like that picture of steve buchshemi saying "how do you do fellow kids" but the kids is replaced with nerds.
