Community Event / Creation Elite Dangerous android remote control

Hi all,

I'm not sure how everyone else is getting on with controlling elite dangerous. I'm currently using an Xbox controller.
Since I'm not very good at remembering key combinations I decided to see if I could create an app on my android tablet to control the game on the pc.

I'm mostly thinking of controlling such things as hard points, landing gear rather than the primary controls for the ship.

So far it's going well, I've got a basic UDP networking setup to transmit my key commands from the remote on the android tablet to the pc. I then have an app on the pc that sends the key commands to elite dangerous. It works.

Firstly would anyone else be interested in this.

If you are interested I'm looking for thoughts from the community on what kind of touch screen key layouts people would like?

Note: it's early days for the project but I hope to have a working android remote in a couple of weeks or so.

Hi there - how are you getting on with your app

Also how did you get your 360 controller working with the game?

Thanks

John

very nice of you Cmdr, have you thought of saving a little time and using an existing platform to do the same job? i've used an input app called Roccat Powergrid that one of the members made an ED UI for but the layout wasn't quite what i was looking for.

it could do with some adjustment imo as the binds you need differ depending on the controller you use. as a fellow xbox 360 controller user i would be interested in the design you come up with, I'd like to see the fixed throttle percentages for one.

I'm working on making it accept multiple button presses at the same time at the moment.

With regard to the XBOX 360 controller, it's the PC compatible version. Elite dangerous recognises it as an advanced controller. However I've actually configured it using XPadder, which seems to work quite well.

Yeh, I've looked at existing remote apps. Some of them will certainly do the job. However I've been looking for a project to get my teeth into. I'd like to expand the project into a multi-purpose remote in the longer term, but for now I'm looking to create a dedicated elite dangerous remote app.

Hello fellow commanders !
What would be great is some kind of API that would allow to use a tablet as the side panels instead; it could return graphics to avoid scripting and provide perfect matching with the game.

Another one is DroidPad - creates a virtual USB HID (Keyboard, Joystick, Mouse) device controlled via Android app. Source is on github.
