Elite Dangerous Api & ED Market connector

Hi Frontier Team,
Hi commanders,

I wonder if it's possible for Frontier Team to make a fork of ED Market Connector project found there : [REMOVED LINK TO SOFTWARE THAT USES API - FRONTIER DO NOT SUPPORT SUCH USE OF THE API]

By the way, all commanders could use this application .

I think, it can help a lot of players and it takes not a lot of time for you to certify this application.

I'm waiting for this companion from the beginning.

If you want to make a better companion (as good as ED), you can do it after, don't you think ?

Power play is a good extension but honestly this extension concern only hardcore players.
I've try to reach 750 merits.
It's just impossible for me in one week. So I will not receive any bonus and so I make other think like trading, exploring and fighting.

ED Market Connector can help all players and casual player too.

Have a good day,

Cmrd's Ramon

And the prize for the quickest link take down goes to...

It's a shame that they are so quick to jump on links to EDMC, while at the same time being unable (unwilling?) to offer an official API.

I know MB said the official API a low priority for FDEV, but this just reinforces that they have completely underestimated the 'want' for this from the community.

It is a also shame that they have seemingly forgotten that it was us customers/kickstarters who played a BIG part in making this game possible.

The simple rule in business is to give your customers what they want or they will find another way to get it.

I'm afraid our standing instructions on the matter are to remove links to anything that accesses the game or server data and it's been confirmed that that includes the companion API.

I suspect that given the current state of the companion API authentication, in that it only supports form based cookie authentication, means that Frontier can't condone use of it.

I don't suppose they can really say "Yes go use it", or support it at all whilst third parties have to request your login and password to use it on your behalf.

To do so might imply to some people some FD responsibility when someone get's hit by a phishing attack.

Don't expect anyone to confirm or deny this.

Well, I will firstly admit I do use 3rd party tools for trading etc. But in a way I do hate that they exist. The reason is, that they benefit only one profession in the game, which gives traders an unfair advantage, making it the most profitable profession since the beginning. I do think ED would be even more fun, if you had to find a trade rout by yourself. Now I know that just yells for someone to tell me "why do you use them then?".. well.. if they exists, I won't handicap myself just for fun, I can find fun in having loads of credits also :) What I'm trying to say is, I can see why such thing would be a low priority (if it should ever be made at all) for FD.

Ok a bit of a rant up there. The API sure will come, what it will support I don't know, FD said they are/will work on it. It would be nice to make a mobile app that could connect to ED and use it as a second screen (yes there are apps that do similar things, but I'm talking about direct communication). Like if you look up FallOut4 PipBoy. Power management on my tablet? yes please :D

you're talking about rank 3 right? you don't have to earn 750 each week, you can take it slower, earn about 300 merits per week only. And getting 300 in a week, should be one or two hours in a ship that should cost less than a million to buy and decently outfit. Not so hardcore, just don't give up before you try or understand how it works.

English is not my mother language but in the manual and in explanation inside game too, we must make merits on the same week.
Currently I've more than 100 Merits and I've always the rank 1.

And about outfit, I choose the "Prepare" mission. So I make travel with 10 objects so 20 travels for reach 100 and more....
My cobra is fitting for exploration not really for fighting.

EDMC is so wonderful that it is the only thing that has kept me trading in Elite. Kudos to the team that run it and, much though I hate to say it, because I love Elite to bits, negative points to Frontier for not providing in game trading tools and also for suppressing links like the one at the beginning of this thread, which is frankly shameful.

The whole idea that pilots in 3015 or whatever shouldn't have access to some kind of trading computer is crazy and if there is anything that truly does turn ED into a grind, it is having to spend hours comparing station prices. Yes, I realise there are tools which scan screens etc., but none of them are totally reliable and EDMC is just about the only option that works on OSX. Games, I seem to recall from my childhood, are supposed to be fun, are they not? EDMC is not only very well designed, it is fun to use and trivially easy to understand--basically it is a small masterpiece of programming and if Frontier would just chill and think around this one, they might just make the EDMC team an offer which would benefit us all.

I have a great deal of respect for Frontier as a company, but when they fall short, they fall very short indeed. A lot of the complaints in the forums would vanish overnight if Frontier took a deep breath, spent some time fixing bugs, got some professional writers to bring the manual up to date, and started posting explanations of new features that didn't need a 5000 post thread for the rest of us to figure out.

Next time you are clicking the left mouse button 192 times to sell your cargo, reflect that EDMC can pick up all the market data from the station you are at with one click. If Frontier had designed the tool, we would have a thread a mile long in this forum, just trying to understand what the app did, never mind how it worked and we would all have got RSI trying to use it (-:

I'm really completely agree with you.

I'm not alone in this space, sniff.

I messaged the mods about that. They added a post today but didn't scrub the thread. Probably just an oversight.

EDIT: And that reply is now gone...so...I guess that is the only place they will allow to reference it....perhaps FD is coming up with something soon

EDIT2: NVM, I was thinking of the stickied thread, here it is https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=52248&p=2478471&viewfull=1#post2478471

I suspect it will be redacted from that one too, when they find it

Ok, this may be a UI error, but here's why I'm not using this tool....

It says when loading to enter the ED username/email and password ... uh no. You're not getting that. How dumb do you have to be to give that up.

I don't care if it's the best targeting machine on the planet, I'll use the old school way because the old school way doesn't open my system up to hacking and/or data (identity) theft. So ... if you're the developer ... EAT An (elephant trunk).

Lots of shame can be undoubtedly associated with Frontier but here you just need to google, so let them jump :) Google is very good at twarting attempts at lame censorship. And check the logs on eddb.io. 90% of people use it. This is how I found about it btw.

You need to give that to log into FD's server. Go here if you want to see what data is being used for "identity theft." Hint - None.

You wouldn't be able to explain to somebody who wasn't able to figure it out by himself :) Market Connector still doesn't work with 2.0 and it is a pity. eddb.io data went stale practically overnight and there is almost no updates in last 3 days (or how long do we have since Horizons?). I thought it was 90%, not it looks more like 99% :)

Before Horizons release, my EDDN relay logger was recording* 1000 - 1500 individual stations per day. Now it is about 40 per day. They just come in from the OCR based software. So roughly 3.2% of the original data throughput.

* It only stores a single record for each station. Each time a new update comes in it checks to see if it already has it and merges it.
