Elite: Dangerous Backer - how do I get to play?

Hi All,

I was one of the original backers for the game and at the time I did that the reward was to be able to have a copy when it was released, but I'm not sure how go about downloading a copy and playing.

I've looked through my emails and on this machine they go back to 2013 with "Elite:Dangerous Newsletter #6" and an invitation for alpha and beta in 2014...

Any ideas?

Thanks

You need the account that you Backed it on... if you dont have the details still, then like every thing to do with accounts you have to try to recover it...
If the acount you logged in to the forum with was not that account it will not show on the frontier store...

Yay! Thanks:

I've no idea what I'm doing....but I'll give it a try.

I played Elite on the BBC Micro. I suspect things have moved on a little since then.

I confess I didn't expect that outcome.

Welcome OP and o7.

Beware the learning curve is steep, and never fly without rebuy!

I clicked out of interest and noticed I have the original elite ready for download!?
will this work on modern(ish) laptops?
It should still work.

Bear in mind it's the original 8-bit Elite, not the native PC conversions, so it uses the BeebEM BBC Micro emulator which it itself a little long in the tooth now but mostly runs OK under Windows 7/10. If memory serves the emulator has some issues when running fullscreen DirectX, with the menu disappearing, but if you stick to running it in a window it should be fine.

There's a readme.txt in the Elite download that gives good step-by-step instructions for getting Elite up and running.

What a shame you missed the beta days, the game seemed so much harder then to play. Reminiscing now on boosting inside the station by accident, getting stuck inside the station letter box was a daily event with a deadly outcome!, getting destroyed inside the station for no reason and AI ships ramming you causing instant death!
