Elite Dangerous Beta 2.3 "Exception downloading file, possible network failure" (260 character limit) FIXED!
Hey everyone!
After some digging of my problem I finally found the answer and fixed it and today I would like to share it with you all and not only go in detail but keep it short and simple! WARNING: Have not seen this problem on a mac nor do I have a mac, this might not work for mac computers!
Error message:
Annoying after a while!
here are the steps
step1: Ensure you have "Enable Cache check" off and "detailed update log" off before continuing with this, this will allow your download to sync and download quicker!
where to go to disable these (options tab, located at the top right corner of the Elite Dangerous launcher menu, near the "Welcome [your username]"):
step2: head over to your windows key (or searcher) and type in "gpedit.msc" (without the quotations) BUT DO NOT click it just yet, right click the gpedit and hit "Run as Administrator", after that you are good to go!

what to click after finding gpedit:
step3: navigate over to Local Computer Policy> Computer Configuration> Administrative Templates> System> Filesystem> NTFS
should look like this:
step4: click on "Enable NTFS pagefile encryption" and click "policy setting" located to the left of the "Enable NTFS pagefile encryption".
step5: Click "Enable" and "Apply" it.
(CRITICAL STEP)step6: go back and then go to "short name creation options" this will shorten the number of characters the files will have as the beta has too many! choose the "policy setting" again.
step7: Lastly "Enable" it and "Apply" it!
step8: Open up the Elite Dangerous launcher (how ever you do it in your way) and install the beta!
