Elite Dangerous: Boxed Version - What's In The Box!!!???!!!???

I'm suddenly excited, having noticed the boxed version upgrade appearing on the store (aside from the free Cobra Skins that have appeared).

What I really want to know is what's in the box - not going to stop me from buying it as I have the boxed versions of all of the other Elite releases but I'm wondering, does it include:
.
  • Instructions on how to play the game?
  • A novella setting the scene as we head out into the unknown on 16th December??
  • Ship cards! Top Trump style giving us detail on each of the craft we've likely to encounter and may be able to own ourselves???
  • Origami pop-out versions of the ships at 1:100 scale so we can hang them from our bedroom ceilings????
  • Lego Sidewinder kits (with free special edition 'Jameson' figure)?????
  • Keyboard and X52 HOTAS overlay control list??????
  • Oculus Rift CV Version - Elite Dangerous Special Edition??????
  • Retro-Feel Lenslock Game Access System
  • Ladies Chequebook Pen
  • Cuddly Toy
  • And speedboat (for those who live in Birmingham)
.
I need to know. :)

yes, really would like to know this too, however I've assumed it's nothing special, otherwise it would've been mentioned in the newsletter. Can't access store at the moment, presumably it is being hammered by people trying to find out the same thing :)

Edit: Thanks for the pic, seems my assumption was correct :(

If the box came with printed materials other than a starter guide - and I'm talking Elite/Frontier level stuff here of Novellas, maps, etc then I would get it.

Other than that, it's just a bit of cardboard with a disk in it - it's not a boxed version of Elite.

I'm disappointed with this. It feels like the box should be an "Ultimate Collectors Edition" - instead this feels like a cheap money grab.

I love you Frontier but sometimes I wonder...

could well have all of the above and more, but we do know what it doesn't have!

been asking the same question for a couple of days! still no reliable info! btw did they say when it was likely to ship?

Agree, I'm also disappointed. I would certainly pay for a high quality actual boxed copy, but not this. Although I think it was a KS thing, which maybe an issue for general release.

In a few months, if they maybe do a GotY edition or "Special Collectors Edition" like this you won't be able to stop me throwing my money at them.

Maybe you'll be able to buy a Premium Edition Boxed copy off eBay when they start shipping. That includes a Polo Shirt, paperback copy of the sequal to The Dark Wheel and a Star Map.

I'm sure you'll find some of them on ebay in the near future thanks to offlinegate.

What is not clear from the photograph is that the box is 75 feet along it's short side, & that it contains a fully functioning flat-packed self assembly Sidewinder. Tools are not included, but that's no great loss as traditional self assembly tools are made from metal so soft they make lead look like hardened titanium !
There may also be some difficulty in sourcing spare foot well mats as Halford's have declined to stock them. ;)

You never know your luck, but I doubt it is quite the same as the Kickstarter:

Premium Boxed Edition of Elite: Dangerous
DRM-free collector's premium boxed edition of "Elite: Dangerous". Includes a T shirt with "I backed Elite: Dangerous" on the back, an A3 Star Map and a paperback copy of the official sequel to "The Dark Wheel".

Either way, some clarification would be nice

The boxed set in the store will clearly be equivalent to the £60 kickstarter pledge due to the advertised contents being a disk, key and manual:
Pledge £60 or more

374 backers

Physical DRM-free boxed edition of "Elite: Dangerous" plus all rewards above (please note: the disc in the pack is simply an alternative way to install the game - it will have the same online account code whether installed off disc or downloaded digitally).

The Premium Boxed set was at the £90 pledge level.

As it stands, the boxed set is a waste of money. The disk saves you a little time on loading onto a new machine, but a lot of people have built new machines for this and nearly everyone prefers to d/l because, although slower, it is more reliable.

The quick start guide is nice, but not worth £10. You'd essentially be paying for a box on a shelf that may have some collector resale value, but on it's own - worthless.
