Elite Dangerous crashing and I don't know why

I'm crashing in game at random intervals (~15min to ~3hours) . As far as I know there wasn't a specific in game event that triggered my crashes.

My PC specs:

AMD Ryzen 5 1600
32GB of 3200 Mhz ram
RTX 2070 SUPER

End of Dmp.file

Here is a list of things I have tried / know:

Memtest, all drivers are up to date, Elite's files are not corrupted, all my hardware has been stress tested, all my temps are good, 3D settings are disabled in GPU control panel, changing graphics settings, praying, tried a lower res, banged my head against the wall, changed to borderless, changed monitors, reseated my ram, rolled back graphics drivers.

Here is a list of things I am considering:

reinstalling windows, throwing my pc out my window.

Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: ah you tried borderless already.

Could also try messing with frame limit if that doesn't work for you. Either making sure it's synced with your monitor or slightly lower. Try v-sync on/off as well. If you suspect the problem is display related you might have luck controlling frame limit or v-sync from your graphics card control panel instead of through the game.

Also if the crashes are recent I would suspect Odyssey.

0xc000005 is afaik "access denied". That means realy access denied or the file is not there at all.
Run chdsk /f c:
and sfc.exe /scannow.
Try ED run as admin.

You are not alone. Last few days I have experienced CTD events 10 to 15 minutes after launching game - every time. My PC works perfectly on all other apps so I think the problem is with ED. I have checked all drivers up to date. Pc is Nvidia I9 10900 CPU and RTX 3090 GPU plus 64Gb ram and 2Tb SSD. I run every thing at high or ultra and 4K res. This problem only began 2 or 3 days ago, previously I can't remember the last time it crashed. I intend to put a ticket in to FD if problem persists tomorrow. Its very frustrating almost to the point of stopping me playing, hope it gets fixed real soon. Adding this... OS is Win 10 latest.

Which memtest did you use? The old one cannot stress modern (<10 years) systems enough to get a reliable result. Where did you download the drivers? Directly from the vendor? What temps were logged during gaming? (Use hwinfo preferrably).

reinstalling windows, throwing my pc out my window.
I doubt any of these options will help you. But if you consider reinstalling, move to Windows 10 directly.

Anyway, ED is known to just crash to desktop for no obvious reason. It is also know to not being particularly performance hungry or causing high power consumption on CPU or GPU. If your system is otherwise stable in more demanding games, like Metro Exodus, The Witcher 3 or Cyberpunk, your hardware is probably fine. You could remove unnecessary software, running in the background, like those really badly programmed RGB control software.

Hi all. Further to my post yesterday, I put in a ticket this morning then... decided to give the game another try and it has now been working perfectly for over an hour. Problem seems to have abated. Updated my ticket with support and said i'd continue to monitor and report any further problems.

Your 2070 is the issue send it to me and I can fix it.

This crashing stuff is getting very boring. I did two missions successfully this morning and avoided the sentries who suddenly pop up on your should and zap you. The third mission was a simple fit the power regulator and put out the fires. This was until I was looking for the last atmosphere panel when the adjudication server didn’t like it and it crashed. I filled in the crash report and relaunched the game. It put me back in the mission with none of it completed and no power regulator. I wandered around opening lockers, got bored and called a shuttle. That was OK until a system jump and it crashed. VERY bored at this point I restarted my system, made a cup of tea and restarted the game. It put me back in the shuttle at the completion point of the system jump and I‘ve just landed at a station. All very strange. My system is stable. It runs Elite Dangerous Horizons and I can’t remember the last crash. It runs FSX, MSFS 2020 and a couple of games from Steam and they are run OK.
I know this is a test alpha but some of this seems a bit fundamental to me.

Still having this problem. CTD after around 30 minutes of play. Also getting Orange Sidewinder and Mauve Adder. Have put in a ticket which is being looked at. Hope its fixed soon and before Odyssey drops.

I upgraded to Phase 3, logged in and went and stood in the bar. I left it to make tea (you may have noted I make tea at intervals...old bloke you see) anyway, it was OK when I left it and came back, with the tea, it was CTD. Restarted it and did a retrieve memory chip from a wreck and it played OK. I'm now worried that my Odyseey install has some problems and I might have to delete all the Elite stuff and do a clean install of it all.
