Elite Dangerous Factions subreddit (join in on the ED endgame!)

We're starting to see some threads on this forum and in general with people wondering "I have my ship and a load of cash, now what?" For these folks, it sounds like you have reached high-level play. First of all... Congratulations!

You are now probably wondering what to do next?

Like many other MMO's, the endgame is where the fun really begins! Unlike many MMO's, Elite Dangerous doesn't actually hand you the endgame. You won't get a quest to introduce you to your first raid, battlegrounds, or corp.

Let's look at EVE since this is the closest game to ED in many ways. Endgame for EVE is basically Corp politics. Whether it is running ops against other corps, for your corp, or whatever, the end goal is essentially to expand the influence of your corporation in 0-sec space.

For Elite Dangerous, it is very much the same. In fact, you have likely been doing Endgame Progression all this time without being aware. All missions and actions in the game are tied into either one of the three main factions or numerous minor factions. On top of improving your faction influence and quality of missions, your actions influence the number of systems and planets each faction controls and the types and quantities of missions they offer through out the faction controlled stations.

You can probably see where this is going.

You can probably now also understand why we see the occasional thread from players asking for a home. In truth, these players are for an NPC factions to back. Some choose one of the big three (Empire, Federation, Alliance). This allows them to actively participate and shape the in-game narrative. Some people choose factions in far flung corners of space to really make their own. This is akin to your very own player housing. Finally, some people choose factions in highly player populated space. This naturally puts them into direct contact and conflict with other factions, both player and NPC backed.
Unfortunately, a truth about ED right now is that there aren't a lot of tools for players to organise or rally behind their chosen factions. Not to mention show off a bit of your pride...

This is where the new Elite Dangerous Factions subreddit comes in. You will have the option to both post recruitment, updates, and discussions about your favourite factions. Of course, you will also be able to show off your flair and proudly proclaim your faction.

So for everyone interested... COME ON DOWN to Elite Dangerous Factions!

getting hostile with empire for some reason

im getting hostile with empire for some reason. but there are so many factions that make up the empire. how do i get back to neutral with them?

If you look in your System Map (under Galaxy Map), it will tell you about all of the factions in a system along with their allegiance. Try and perform missions only for Empire aligned factions.

It may be tough since you are hostile to them, but I would start with missions at Outposts so you don't have to deal with station security.

Is the political simulation really working? I have performed lots of missions and seen "1% ^" reported for influence but never seen the system report change. It's also seemed like a lot of the states (civil war, expansion, boom, etc.) will show up and then be gone the next time I look.

Does anybody have an order-of-magnitude estimate for how many missions are needed to actually change faction influence? 100's? 1000's? More?
