The crash is so instant I'd assumed something local on the Geforce PCs must be messed up - missing folder/dll, that sort of thing. Will see what the boffins find out.

It's the actual error message that popped up:

Application startup exception: Catastrophic failure (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8000FFFF (E_UNEXPECTED))
Internal error creating window: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
Unhandled exception: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation.

Hi cmdrs,

Just reviving this thread as a few GEforce now cmdrs contributed plus I am sure @GraphiteGB may have toyed with it in the past.

I transferred my console cmdr to PC and have it linked to GEforce now via Steam, I'm using the GEforce now android app on my smart TV.

I am using my PS4 controller which is connected via bluetooth to the TV and everything working fine except when it comes to the galmap.

I was expecting an on-screen keyboard when clicking into the galmap search field but I get nothing.

Am I going to need a bluetooth keyboard solely for galmap searches or is there anything in steam/geforce/elite config I can do to enable an on-screen keyboard?

If the TV brand is not trigging on screen virtual Keyboard then yea youll need to buy a keyboard/track pad/ combo unit... If you want to type in System names...
(there may be a TV remote button To bring up a VK up manualy)...
If you get a combo K&M unit you may be able to dump DS4 for Map use as well...

This does mean checking BT Keyboard vs TV BT compliance versions... or going RF USB dongle..

but you also should get more out of Geforce now with extra keyboard commands as well...

Take it the old solution to this issue no longer works...

- Go into settings (which is at the bottom of the main UI screen) - Then go down to the preferences tab and scroll right to "Keyboard" then select it - Press A on the controller and select "Leanback Keyboard"

When you say 'main UI screen' is that the launcher screen, or a screen inside elite? (being a PS4 cmdr I am not familiar with the PC interface)

It was the geforce now interface while the game is running... You hold down a button for 3 seconds to bring up the Geforce now menu... It was the Xbox menu button on Xbox controller...

To bring up the virtual keyboard, press the start button on your gamepad for a few seconds to open the in-game overlay, then open the virtual keyboard. Once the in-game overlay is open, you can use the right stick on your gamepad like a mouse to select the correct dialog box. The gamepad A button, the right trigger, and right stick button can be used as a left mouse click.

Thanks cmdr, I will have a look to see if the geforce android app has any settings, I have scoured my TV settings and nothing there. May raise a support ticket with LG.

Nope, nothing there. What's more frustrating is I've tried pretty much every android bluetooth keyboard off the play store and none of them work with LG TV. I've put a ticket in with LG, if I make any progress I'll report back here.
