Elite: Dangerous has recieved +1000 active palyers due to NMS this month

Interesting. Those are the concurrent player numbers, so actual number of individuals would be higher.

We don't know how many are returning players though. Some may have given ED another shot after NMS, and Gamescom hype may have brought some existing players back to prep for 2.2

Edit: Steamspy guesstimates around 95k individuals played in the last 2 weeks on Steam. That stat was around 75k before NMS launch.

I actually really enjoy NMS and still play it to relax and chill, but yes it got me to reinstall Elite. Unfortunately it didn't all go smoothly. I took a break in the middle of exploring. I got back in and uh..... Well there was an unfortunate accident involving a selfie and the ... The side of a planet.

So.... I spent yesterday grinding some imperial rank. I like these new missions. Even the 20 mission limit is like an invisible hand saying (yes the hand speaks) "hey! *slap* you're supposed to be flying not sitting in the dock waiting for missions"

Steam numbers and E: D do not mix as most people start their Steam games from the launcher which isn't tied into Steam at all.

According to Steam I only have 24 hours on that account, but it is over 2 weeks of game play so far.

I bought ED originally on steam, but I now use the Frontier launcher on an independent install to save overhead. I think a lot of folks do this.

Can you explain? I run on steam. What's the extra overhead?

Just to ballance this out. I bought NMS and I'm still not playing ED at the moment . I will again when it gets interesting of course but that is a good while away it seems. In the mean time NMS , whilst not being a complicated space sim, or indeed a sim , is amusing for those if us who like exploring in a laid back kinda way . Whatever floats ya boat eh?

No Man's Sky has the power of making every other game look good, seriously NMS made me come back and play ED for 2 consecutive days without touching NMS which was uninstalled due to its failure in become a decent game

Yeah , it made me think that universal comat was okay

Interesting ...
Since I bought Elite Dangerous (Early Alpha), I always knew I'd jump ship between any of the big three (E : D, SC and NMS) at any time, given that they would offer me the space sim experience I was after.

E : D allowed me to play sooner so I went for this one. Now that I played NMS, I can say that it is not for me. So I'm stuck with E : D and SC. When the latter is released I honestly hope I won't be stuck with E : D only, because as much as I respect FD's work, I'd like to see them both compete vs each other so the final consumer can get the best out of their mutual struggle.

We shouldn't just glance over the fact that even with all the procedural Hoopla NMS tried to sell, ED actually does planet generation and space to planet landing better. In ED, if you see a canyon on a planet from space, when you get down to the planet it's actually there. NMS just puts a filler texture over the entire planet and then just makes it up as it goes along when you land. In NMS what you see from space is NOT what you get.

Not to mention that NMS doesn't even really have landing and flight model. Press Square to land! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

SC and ED will be head to head , and it will be intresting to see them change and adapt to eatch other.

Its a respectable oposition , and thats very healthy

I just know from other games that August / September was when servers recovered from the Summer.
It may have had an effect but it wouldn't have been the only factor.
Not to mention the Alien hype but they'll need to push that through to maintain the numbers.

I think the point of this thread is that Frontier and CIG should both chip in to send some beer to Hello Games, with a note that says "A thank-you gift, from our marketing teams to yours." :D
