Elite Dangerous, Horizons and Covid.

Hi folks :)

Just a few questions.

1. How has the covid epidemic affected you personally as regards playing the game.
Do you play more (over the last year) due to either being not at work, working from home or unfortunately not having work due to the lock downs.

2. Has playing the game helped you personally in dealing with the crisis. for example, has it helped to take your mind off the current situation in some ways?

Jack :)

Covid hasn't realy increased my hours playing ED, it rather encouraged me to try or continue playing other games, with great success I might say.
Although many facilities are in lockdown like restaurants etc. I haven't had that many problems regarding work since I'm retired already.
ED isn't the game that I'm playing the most anymore, there are alternatives like NMS that are equally or even more enjoyable or fun to play.

1. much more time at hand, as finished projects first got pushed to last summer, than this summer, and now late summer or next year, so currently ed keeps me simulating having something to do. luckily fully social secured and in the overwhelming majority publicly funded. plus most of my social life fully locked down, so yeah - a lot of time.

2. there is some escapism for me to be had with ed, plus going places. and generally online gaming is more or less the only place "normal" under current conditions - it's good to have such a place.

I'm certainly playing less as my office is the kids classroom by day, my office by evening, and by the time I've cleared my feet of work I'm often too tired to fly, or simply want away from the computer. I wouldn't say Elite has helped me deal with COVID, but I know some people who have immersed themselves in Elite to create headspace for personal crises they were encountering.

1. My work in my job luckily hasn't become less during the pandemic, so not really more time to play, just a little more flexible due to working from home.
2. Not more than before. Games ensure that I don't have to face boredom. I know co-workers that are not taking it so well.

Working from home. Which I am glad to be doing. Our area more or less proved that our job can be done without all having to be gathered in a (literal) vault with butts in seats to do the job.
No change for me in game play. I'm not in every day, but that's ok. Elite is a game that doesn't require you to be on every day just to keep up with the Jones's. I do pop in to do a few rounds of bounty hunting to pay for the carrier.

Red Dead Online helps me cope with long, rough winters, which tend to be more disruptive to me than COVID (this winter in particular). It's the next best thing to being outside IRL!

Hi, Several Puffins.
Lost someone early on in lockdown (still no chance for a funeral) and was furloughed. I absolutely got lost in space to help me through it. I don't play much now, but was doing regular working days in space for a few months there.
Thanks for the reply, not anywhere near the same as your situation I'd imagine, but we (me & my wife) had to have our pet dog put to sleep last Thursday. We'd had her for over 14 years, much loved.
I'm sorry to read of your loss. I hope some of the pain has left you. All my best wishes.

Jack :)

COVID has hugely reduced my spare time in general including gaming esp in lockdown 1
My wife is key worker, I am not but able to work fully from home so trying to do full time job at the same time as look after a 4 year old meant little time to game and when I got spare time was knackered and didn't feel like digging out my VR headset or gaming at all..... Lockdown 2/3 not as bad as we made use of keyworker status so gamed a little bit... Still, roll on freedom , fingers crossed this will be our last lockdown

Note I am NOT complaining (touch wood) I have not lost anyone close and my job is safe at least for 12 months so am better off than many. Condolences to all those who lost family, friends and livelyhood

I’m a freelance commercial photographer, my work came to a grinding halt early last year. My gaming time went up massively - thank goodness because I’d have gone nuts otherwise.

My wife’s been teaching in school throughout, either with all the kids or those of other key workers and those deemed vulnerable. Once I‘d finished any decorating/repairs/home improvements etc I was left with little else to do but the daily chores, some projects I came up with and gaming - a little embarrassment and shame too, doesn’t feel great having your partner working so hard whilst you kick around the place. Lots in my position though and plenty more with far worse. Soon though....hopefully soon🥳

1. Iv not worked since 2013, due to health issues.
I was glad when ED came along in 2014 & have put in 10.5k +hrs on the gameclock.........though I'd tailed off playing after DW2 finished until Carriers update was released, then back up to normal.

2. No, not affected me in the least.......just take each day as it comes:)
