Elite Dangerous (Horizons) no longer viable with SteamVR.

It was AOK two nights ago. I started Elite up today and there is terrible judder. I'm 100% sure frontier haven't released any update over the past 2 days so that leaves Valve as the culprit.

Steam update today and now Elite is once again back to the performance we saw during Horizons beta with 800 runtime.

This means I can no longer record videos and upload to youtube.

maybe valve are making behind the scenes changes to get it working with 1.0

if that is the case (big if i guess) it may be a worthy price to pay.

Well I have confirmed it is steamvr that's broken since they updated steam today.

Half Life 2 no longer works in SteamVR.

Just black screen and lots of CPU usage.

have you posted on their forum?

edit.. i am guessing this is you ;)

if not you are not alone at least

Currently I seem to be alone. That is me.

By the way... many people complain that SteamVR interface starts up backwards. This has been consistent for me as well. VR menu was always behind me. In HL2 it's no different. Get into a boat or car and you're facing the wrong way. I have to use console command to reset VR position every time I play.

It's weird you're having it with 0.6.

I've just tried 501 runtime via runtime switcher and it's as smooth as ever. I'm using win 8.1.

GTX 970.

This is bad news. I had problems two days ago, but I think that was just me, yeasterday everything worked well. But now I noticed that new SteamVR update was downloading... I really hope it still works, I have spent way too much time fighting with judder and stuff.

I'm set to download the steamvr betas, and was having no issues last night (about 3am this morning GMT). I've got a 970, but also am no longer launching "horizons vr" (after finding out that horizons normal launches and runs better in steamvr than the vr launch option... thanks Steam). I also have the overlay turned off.

Did you back one Beta or what?

I did indeed go back one and HL2 is working again and the judder has gone with Elite (although nowhere near as good as 501 runtime).

I might try going back further still because I have no idea how often they've been updating SteamVR. I notice that HL2 is now unplayable due to severe judder whereas last year it was smooth.

It should be cause for concern that SteamVR gets slower with every update. Last year I was able to run HL2 smoothly on GTX 680. I now have a 970 and HL2 is unplayable. SteamVR is a snail.

SteamVR is utter rubbish at the moment - I really hope the DEV's are listening and do not think it will be an acceptable solution for the DK2 / CV1 because it won't be.

I has to agree.

Valve's own games are now unplayable on the most two recent steamVR betas. I haven't gone back further but I will do later.

I contacted valve yesterday about this issue.
