Elite Dangerous (Horizons) no longer viable with SteamVR.

For those not having issues with the latest steamvr...

Lucky... I wonder what the difference is in hardware/windows?

I'm using windies 8.1, gtx 970 and latest nvidia drivers.

Latest steamvr completely breaks HL2 and TF2 and makes Elite unplayable.

I'm now using previous one but HL2 although it runs... has terrible judder.

So I have to go back even further.

I'm wondering if it's related to the windows version.
I'm on the latest steamvr beta, latest gameready nvidia driver, windows 10, gtx 970 - and I know steamvr was really juddery before a windows 10 update recently, and silky smooth since - relatively. Of course, a steamvr update and an elite update hit at the same time as the windows update...

Win 10 / AMD crimsons 16.1 (with hotfix) / Pair of R9-290s / SDK 8.0 / Latest SteamVr beta

No issues, other than the 1080p refresh link between monitor and rift, solved by setting monitor in any 16:10 mode.

I did notice that they have no issue with sending an update right in the middle of playing either as my game crashed hard the other night and scared me half to death just to pull the HMD off and see steam VR updating on my desktop, WTH get a schedule would you maybe a time window.

I have updates on Steam set daily for 2-6AM (unmetered bandwidth period on my ISP). Prevents this sort of thing.

A SteamVR developer is looking into the issue. He's not sure at this point what the most recent update introduced that would cause these issues.

I tried the latest steamvr (1444268063) again last night and sure enough it completely broke HL2 and introduced the Judder in Elite. Switching back to 14445878235 fixed the issues although HL2 has quite a bit of judder on head movement even on lowest details. That is bizarre given it was running smoothly last year with my GTX 680. I'm now using 970 and HL2 isn't really playable. Some serious issues with SteamVR I think.

Win 10 + Single R9 290 Tri-X + DK2 + Version 8 runtime + SteamVR. Runs great except some judder when I'm in Supercruise. And even then, the judder doesn't happen until I get above a certain speed, and is linked to me moving my head, which is just weird :p. Very playable though. I just don't move my head when I start to notice judder.

Head's up people:

It looks like we can choose which SteamVR:

Go to your Steam Library...

Choose: Installed...

Look for SteamVR

Right click... properties...

Then you can select from a list of Betas.

Also I can confirm there was a new SteamVR released yesterday; hence the issues we now see.

^^^ latest steamvr which appears to break stuff.

Weird, I started experiencing this today, horrible judder move your head and it is like your skipping frames. Appreciate your find I just rolled Beta back before Jan 24th and going to give it another try. Unplayable the way it is right now.

Seems ok for me, considering I'm running at 2x supersampling, my HMD slider is around half way, I swear that SteamVR has increased the height of the visual output. My desktop is at 3840x2160, the on screen mirror output is at 1920x1080. So my DK2 output must be 3840x2160 too right?
