Release Elite Dangerous HUD Mod (EDHM)

Ah, okay. I definitely missed that. Thanks.
But I have to admit that I'm struggling a little with reading the EDHM UI. The lettering is a little too small for my old eyes, it seems. Is there a way I can change that?
It's not possible to change the text size in the current version of EDHM_UI.
However, version 3 of EDHM_UI is currently under development. In this version, text is larger by default and takes into account the Windows text size setting.
This may help you when version 3 is available.

Hello, I've been trying for the longest of time to have a significant increase of the stardust length as I found it a lot more helpful combining length showing turning curve more and its speed when doing Fa Off to avoid having to send my eyes down to the ship to see where the speed indicator is slowly hitting back to blue zone when changing vectors and attempting to stay as optimal as possible it terms of trajectory. Sure, using the engine sound cue to have an idea when to adjust thrusters use is there, I like having a correlation of sound with the graphic to be certain I'm redirecting my vector properly.

I've noticed that for some reason in CQC the stardust length is increased by default, helping a lot with the "readable information" it provides.
A while ago, when I was still in win7 I was able to use a much more increased stardust setting in the normal mode, whereas when I switched a few years ago to win10 there was a strange limiter on it. Now on win11, I still come across the same limiting issue. Moreover, it seems that when in a planetary instance, the stardust length is longer than in space.

I've been constantly trying to find a way to go above what seems to have a new limit but to no avail. I also noticed when doing a custom value, the naming on EDHM in Global Settings is called "White Objects", while as User Settings it is idd called "Space Dust". I don't know if it's simply a UI misnomer with the int actually still being correct so to speak. When I click in global setting's "White Objects", I get a AND condition with below it Background Opacity. When I click on Background Opacity, I have a search and rolldown menu where I could click on Stardust Length, hoping it would correct it but it does not replace Background Opacity. I don't know if the latter is simply the broader category in which Stardust Length is subject to but given the list, I doubt all of the other elements share that newly edited value.

Same thing happens with attempting to use the edit button in User Settings that shows "Space Dust", I do have the AND condition and this time shows upon clicking Space Dust in this rolldown all dust related ones: brightness, length, mode. I tried putting another AND condition and select Space Dust Length, but it remains glued to Space Dust (0 or 1 for disabled or enabled)

Last noticed thing, Star Dust Brightness and Star Dust Length both in Global and User Settings, from EDHM's integrated slider to set a value, both have the same description "Brightness for Space Dust". Due to my lack of understanding of how to properly implement a custom rule to catch Star Dust Length this is leading me to wonder if there is a way to change its value in a xml form, independently from EDHM to see if it works?

I don't know if there's a way to modify dust using XML, EDHM doesn't modify the game's XML settings.

In EDHM_UI's Global Settings, the Space Dust Length option displays the correct name when using EDHM_UI.
Perhaps you're using EDHM_UI in a different language, which could explain this issue.
There could be a problem with the EDHM_UI translations (User Settings isn't translated, which would explain why the option appears correctly here).

The White Objects and Background Opacity options have nothing to do with dust.

I just noticed you mentioned an edit button, there isn't an edit button to use.
There's the name of the Space Dust Length option on one side and a slider displayed opposite. Adjustments are made only using this slider.
The filter button shouldn't be used.

If you've changed anything using the filter button, I recommend deleting the settings in User Settings and then reinstalling EDHM_UI to restore the Global Settings.
After restoring, you can add options to User Settings again if you wish.

For the Space Dust Length option to have an effect, you must select Custom Color for the Space Dust Mode option.
Note that if the Space Dust Length parameter has been added to EDHM_UI's User Settings, only the value selected in User Settings will be used; in this case, the value in Global Settings will be ignored.

It's important to note that the Space Dust Length option is intentionally limited, this allows for a slight increase in dustiness without providing a significant benefit.
This limitation is intentionally coded into the EDHM shader, entering a higher value in the EDHM configuration will not allow this limit to be exceeded.

Thanks for the quick reply. A bit sad I couldn't at least fit the CQC dust length to the regular game but oh well.
As for the edit button I guess I didn't explained my step well enough, here's a few screenies to show the things I mentioned

pic1 I click on button next to Star Dust Length
pic2 I insert a slightly higher value than the cap: 40, and set it to 60
pic3 "White Objects appeared" with a value of 60
pic4 clicking the edit button (not the rolldown arrow next to it; explicitly the word); shows the AND condition and the group/category, White Objects if using the roll down: it then shows what is within it. I tried clicking Star Dust Length thinking it was a fluke but it wouldn't switch to it.

Either way thanks for the help and clarification of the cap choice. Maybe I should stop playing CQC I got hooked on it for too long xD Skipping rebuy and get back immediately to the action has been a lot of fun!

Am curious: what's the reason behind allowing a slight increase in dustiness but intentionally preventing it providing a significant benefit? (Or did I misunderstand?)

The reason is simple, the slight increase brings a slightly different visual effect that some will prefer for their immersion in Elite but it does not allow you to have an advantage over someone who does not use EDHM like during a PvP fight.

Thanks! I also just saw this in the OP:
FDev are fine with the mod so long as it doesn't provide an advantage over other players, or mod their ARX-related assets.
It all makes sense now :)

Good day!
I encountered a problem - It is impossible to set the path to the game folder. A similar problem was described in August 2022. But I could not understand how it was solved.

To the point:
Option 1.
Steam and the Game are installed by default - Disk Name (C, D or E, or any other): \ Program Files (x86) \ and so on. In this case, the EDHM_UI works without errors.

Option 2.
Steam is installed by default - Disk Name (C, D or E, or any other): \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \.
And the game is located in g: \ SteamLibrary \ In this case, the EDHM_UI itself creates the missing folders to get the Classic (default) path to the game.
And writes its files there. As a result, in the mod settings window we can Select profiles and change them. But there will be no changes in the game itself.

Option 3.
Steam is installed in the root directory of the disk (C:\Steam) or in any other folder other than :\Program Files (x86)\
The EDHM_UI does not find the game at all.

Poke me with a screenshot of where the “Add / Edit path to the game folder” button is in the settings.

Poke me with a screenshot of where the “Add / Edit path to the game folder” button is in the settings.
For UI assistance, we recommend visiting the EDHM & EDHM_UI Discord.

To unlock manual location configuration, you must:
  • Open EDHM_UI
  • Open Settings
  • Locate the PI symbol near the green button
  • Press the CTRL key while clicking on this PI symbol
  • This will unlock the three small dots allowing you to manually set the location

Unfortunately, I won't be able to help you further with the UI.
