Elite Dangerous is not a Release title at all.... it's clearly a Beta in alpha clothing.

Hi board,

When I heard about the Elite: Dangerous kick-starter I was more than excited, but not being a wealthy person at that time I was unable to get in on the action. I followed the development of it though with bated breath.... waiting for the time it was ready for release.

Then one late December evening I came across a video saying happy Christmas Elite released.....

I jumped onto my computer and immediately purchased.....

It's now six weeks later and I feel absolutely let down.... The game is in no where near a state to call it a release title. It's devoid of any depth, it gives you no reason to play it, it lacks basic functionality and when researching further I find that all I can find is it will come in time or use your imagination.

So I decided to uninstall Elite dangerous and play something else, while keeping my ear to the ground to find out when it will finally get to a playable state.

Bottom line is - Elite Dangerous is not a Release title at all.... it's clearly a Beta in alpha clothing.

Sure it could do with more depth, more activities etc but to call it a beta in alpha clothing is a tad OTT.
FD freely admit it is a work in progress so I was fully aware of what I was getting and am happy with what I have and have had my monies worth.
I do want more but have already got more enjoyment from this than all the scripted interactive movie style games being released by the AAA companies
So far, I have found ED to be more stable and less frustrating than most of the AAA games of last year

What would you call a finished game on release that is an online game? All online games I have seen to date have been released as basic game and then added to later.

I'll still access the boards as looking at the other offerings, Elite has so much potential.... just not now....

Do feel totally duped into buying an unfinished game though.... not good at all.

They didn't say buy this work in progress when I purchased it.... they said the game was a release title....

Your post history is just slating the game and it's visions.
If you don't like it, don't play it. If you want to stick around and try and be a nuisance to everyone who are enjoying the game, then you should really consider what is actually more productive for you

I understand what you are saying, but surely some standards have to prevail before you actually call it a release... All the things they are talking about that will be in the game that aren't for starters....

Perhaps common sense stuff like trading tools, Involving missions, a population other than a number, charter missions, missions channels that cover several stages, having a rear view of your ship, being able to know which systems you have visited, real open chat sessions with other CMDR's, open warfare between factions across systems, human & Alien inhabitants,

These things are not polish, they are fundamental systems that would make the game actually worth playing.

None of the above exists.

What people tend to not do, is move on with their lives. Instead they stick around on the forums, calling names like "white knight" or "fanboy" to people supporting the game and the development.

Not at all, I felt the need to engage the community as I haven't done before, because of my disbelief that this surely can't be it.... but upon reading it looks as though it is as I thought.

who cares, I'd rather be playing now and enjoy the updates as they come than wait a year not playing it, I've put more hours into this "beta" than most other games of 2014, so it's a pretty epic beta.

It's not that I don't like the game.... I'm saying there is no game....

It's all just foundation... like buying a car and the manufacturer stating the chassis with engine and wheels is the complete car....
